I love the Keene Free Press.  There has never been a newspaper that has induced in me such a variety of emotions.  One minute I'll be elated to see pro-Liberty ideas in print, the next minute, I'll see a letter from some rabid socialist or bigot.

In this case, the letter that made me angry was Karl Mueller's "Wake up Whitey".  The immigration issue is the most misunderstood of all the issues in American politics today.  Not only is it misunderstood, but the anti-immigration "movement" is steeped in racism and bigotry.

First, Mueller attempts to paint a scary picture of a so-called "invasion" by quoting some radical hispanic university professor.  As though because there's a few racist Mexicans out there, they must all be that way, and are all part of a plot to take over the Southwest.  Ludicrous.

Then he makes a call to "STOP the invasion".  I wonder if he realizes he's calling for a police state?  The only way to even put a dent in immigration will be a national ID card, internal checkpoints, and random house to house searches.  That's not an America I want to live in.  Unfortunately, thanks to people like Mr. Mueller, we're hurtling down that path.  Also, Mueller is clearly not much of a student of history, otherwise he'd know that prohibition is always a failure, whether it's alcohol, drugs, or immigrants that are verboten.

He claims the immigrants don't care about "our laws and culture".  I've got news for you, the laws aren't "ours".  I had no part in writing them, nor do I consent to be ruled by them.  I don't care about your precious laws either, Mr. Mueller.  And culture?  What does that mean?  Suffice it to say, I believe Mr. Mueller's idea of "culture" is different from my own.  (And I'm white too.)

After more hate-filled rambling, Mueller throws what shred of credibility he has out the window by quoting white supremecist David Duke.  I wonder, has Mueller actually ever met any of the immigrants he hates so much?  I doubt it.

The solution to immigration problems is not a fence, a wall, or more police and patrols.  The solution is simple, like all Libertarian solutions.

1.  End government welfare, let private charities and individuals help people in need voluntarily.
2.  Restore full property rights.
3.  Abolish the immigration bureaucracies.
4.  Open the borders.

Any solution you hear the anti-immigration crowd advocating always involves bigger and bigger government, and more control over YOUR life.

Try to control others and you will find yourself controlled.

Ian there's only one more thing your missing before completely open borders.

Abolish affirmative action laws.

Many people use such laws as leveral right now, and it's one reason many people --especially conservatives -- oppose immigration. They don't want more people entering that have more rights then they just just because of the color of their skin.

1.  End government welfare, let private charities and individuals help people in need voluntarily. (I hope you'r including abolishing government schools, government run or owned or monopoly granted hospitals and laws that force hospitals to give care whether they're willing to pay or not, as well as basic welfare.)
2. Abolish affirmative action. (That way even racists like the Klan can be happy.  -- Don't print that.)
3.  Restore full property rights. (Really abolishing Affirmative action is part of that.)
4.  Abolish the immigration bureaucracies. (So taxpayers can keep all their money)
5.  Open the borders.

Other then that, that's a good article.
