They'll last longer if you refrigerate them. And most normal smokers utilize about a pack a day. Any more and you might want to grow a few herb plants. I'm lucky to grab a pack under $5.

Yikes, I saw $5 packs in CT the other day, and $7 packs in NYC!

A lot of folks there go on cigarette runs to Virginia to buy several cartons at a time

Smugglers!

"The NYPD has zero tolerance for bootlegged cigarettes! Anyone seen smoking will be required to present a City of New York Tax stamp for each pack in his posession!"

Your papers and your cigarette packs please.
Just another reason to never go to NYC.  :angryfire:

NY requires "fire safe" cigarettes and taxes like crazy hence 7$ a pack.

Granted cigarettes aren't good for your health, but the anti-smoking lobby has largely manufactured the high prices. Taxes aren't bad in NH even though Lynch wanted to increase the tobacco tax. People who sue tobacco taxes often have good reason, but many of them started smoking after the health problems were acknowledged, and I have to say that some of the settlement packages seem excessively large. Tobacco is cheap, lawsuits and taxes aren't.

An easy way to get lower-priced cigs and to avoid most of hte taxes on tabacco is to make your own. You can get empty filter tubes and a machine to make them (~$6) and make good quality cigs for like $1.35 a pack. The best bit is that bulk tobacco is not taxed at nearly the rate of pre-rolleds, so you give LOTS less money to the government.

the surgeon general warning sticker has been on the packages since 1966.
People smoke and get sick.. their choice.

(although I did read once that other nations have higher smoking rates but lower levels of cancer... one study thinks it has to do with nuke testing in the 50s)

And the Surgeon General came out with a highly negative report on smoking 2 years before that.

Regardless of what the SG says, people know smoking was bad for you long before that.  Hell, Hitler even know that smoking caused cancer and worked to reduce it.
