need moving assistance

It looks like I am moving sooner than I thought.  Divorce is imminent, and it appears that I'll end up losing just about everything (part of this is due to living under the radar).  So rather than fight in court, only to end up in debt to a lawyer, it appears that the best and easiest thing to do is to mutually agree to losing everything and at least be able to have the divorce final in 90 days without a court fight.  ETA to NH will probably be about two weeks.  I guess that I'll just have to figure things out when I get there (where?  NH is all I know at this point), I will be arriving with nothing more than a large roomfull of personal posessions.  I will be bringing:
1) A bunch of fragile stuff, mostly electronic equipment and music
2) A garbage bag full of clothes
3) A bunch of tools
4) A german shepherd (he's friendly)

Since I am arriving more or less broke, my most immediate need will be for living and / or storage space, in whatever capacity anyone is willing to offer.  The ideal situation would be to exchange work for rent, either on a long or short term basis.  I can perform virtually any aspect of home maintenance, repair, or construction (carpentry, drywall, painting, electrical, plumbing, etc, etc)....and am perfectly willing to settle for whatever grunt work anyone wants to throw at me, just to be able to get a place to live quickly, or at least until I can make other arrangements.  The next best thing would be a floor to sleep on and a place to shower until I can produce enough income to rent a place.

The next most immediate need will be income.  I would prefer construction management (prefer commercial) or some other office job, but will take whatever I can get / is offered immediately.  Being paid in cash is a plus.  I am aware of the major newspaper links on this forum (have posted here a bit in the past under my soon-to-be-x's name, she will not be moving to NH after all), but are there links to any newspapers in the smaller towns that would be cheaper to live in?  Do any of the real estate folks here know some builders that I could fax some resumes to?

The biggest problem that I forsee is the extremely high cost of housing compared to what sort of income I'll be able to produce.  Any help of any kind that anyone is willing and able to offer would be much appreciated.

Well, if you're moving anywhere near me i'd be glad to help you unpack.

I havent got a house to share or anything though... :/

Hey,

Have you signed the pledge?

www.pledgebank.com/first1000?

I think that there is another post that came out today that had rooms in Manchester.  There are also some porcs in the construction business.

Welcome to NH.

"Well, if you're moving anywhere near me i'd be glad to help you unpack"
Thanks, Matt....but I suspect that I'll initially land somewhere in the southern part of the state, just simply because that's where I probably have the best opportunity to start all over again with nothing.  When I get to the position of being able to buy property again, I could very likely end up in your end of the state, just simply because it's affordable to do so.  Thanks again for the info that you had previously given me privately on Coos.....

"Have you signed the pledge?"
No, I haven't....I'm generally not one for such formalities, I'm more concerned with moving than telling people that I'm moving.  I'll have to go back and read it sometime and see if I can sign it anonymously.....

"There are also some porcs in the construction business."
Like who?  Do you happen to know any who are looking to fill a position along the lines of a project manager or estimator?

"Welcome to NH."
Hey!  I'm not even there yet!

Yes you can sign it anon.

The higher the number goes the more it will help others sign the pledge (and join the FSP) which will in turn have more people move which means more people fighting for liberty in NH.

Joel Winters in Manchester is one who does construction.

Well if you know you'll be here before 08, please sign the pledge just to make us happy  ;)

Yes, signing the pledge is very important, and it also happens to be easy to do.  Congrats on moving to NH!

What is your name?
What username did you used to post under?
You can find work in any town I would guess, any preferences?

It will be helpful for people to get to know you in order to offer you cheaper/shared space.
"Freedominnh" is renting out a place in Weare elsewhere on this forum.
Kat has a contact in Manchester who is wanting to rent to incoming freestaters.

I don't know of any cheap place for you to stay in Keene right now. 2 other single guys have come here and rented by the week or month here. Lots of people in town are comfortable with renting to college students. A guy who works will be considered golden. :)

Another source for roommates is www.craigslist.com.  There are a lot of folks in south NH looking for roomies right now.  Some of them already have a room to rent and others are looking to rent a place together.  Lots of them seem to be pet-friendly.  Best of luck!

Here's NH Craigslist http://nh.craigslist.org/

Here's some off campus housing that should be cheap around Keene State:

Ok, ok....if everyone thinks it will be so useful to the cause, and I can do it anonymously, I'll sign the first 1000 pledge....

Thanks, Russell....an excellent point, I didn't think of that!  My name is John, I'm 38 years old.  I will be moving from south central PA, and have previously lived in MD, DE, and IA.  My divorce will probably be final around Thanksgiving (gotta love the irony in that).  The username that the woman I'm divorcing has / had here is Rhiannon McKinnon.....she registered the name, and made like one post (asking something about Pagan activity, I believe), the rest of the postings from that username were made by me.  Anyone who wants to know anything else about me, or has any other questions, please feel free to ask them (note: I do not wish to post any more personally identifying type of information than I have given here, but am more than glad to give such details privately).

Many thanks for the links and tips given so far, I will be checking them out over the next couple days and signing that pledge....I welcome further questions, comments, and hopefully can come up with enough leads to be able to choose between several options....

Right now I am still trying to wrap my head around the fact that this is all happening....that a divorce was sprung on me so quickly with no willingness to negotiate, and that I'm actually moving off into a situation where nothing is assured (except that I will be subject to fewer stupid and intrustive laws....*smiles*) and I don't know anybody, and doing so with minimal resources and preparation, on virtually no notice.  I thank all of you for the help I have been given so far, and any that may be offered in the future....I can't possibly say enough how much I appreciate this.  Back to packing....

Ok, pledge signed....
2 emails sent about places to live....
1 email sent about possible work....

Next steps are to update and be ready to start sending out my resume....continue packing....poke around online and see what else can be uncovered....

It looks like I'll probably be arriving at either the end of next week, or the beginning of the first week of August....all I need is a place to actually move to....

This is sure tough to swallow....going from having two houses and being self-employed as a landlord, to being back on the "wrong" side of the rent transaction and asking for employment....ugh, I'm right back to where I was in 1993....

A spoonful of freedom helps a crappy situation become more tolerable.  If you were able to build yourself up to the point of becoming a property owner, that says something about you that your wife can't take away.  It seems that in a few years you'll be back, financially, where you were before.  And you'll be in a freer place to enjoy that wealth  :)
