If you're a Firefly fan, you might want to vote in NASA's poll to name Node 3 of the International Space Station:
http://www.nasa.gov/externalflash/name_ISS/index.html

Then again, considering NASA's a government agency, perhaps a more appropriate name would be "Dortmunder".  :P

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Leave the multi billion dollar fuck ups to the Gov.
Don't sully the good name of Firefly.

It gets worse.  I didn't realize that this vote is to name the CRAPPER MODULE.

"Waste and hygiene compartment, which provides a place for the crew to shower and use the bathroom in a way that allows the station to process the majority of the water used onboard so that it may be used again, greatly lessening the need for resupply flights from Earth."

I'm writing in I.A.V. Dortmunder immediately to cancel out my vote for Serenity.  :-[

Firefly fans need to watch at least the first 5 minutes of the latest episode of Castle (Nathon "Malcolm Reynolds" Fillion's current show); it'll bring a tear to your eye.  But you might want to watch the whole thing, it's pretty funny.

No, it's hundreds of years in the future, fool!

I estimate less than 100 years we will all be speaking Chinese. The language of the world market leader becomes the "lingua franca" of the market, no?

I don't know.  It almost feels like the world is devolving into two cultures.

I'm sure I'll be accused of being racist here but I see the market leaders speaking Chinese but the grunts doing manual labor tend to be more of those speaking Spanish.  We'll eventually devolve down to servants and masters and I'd guess it to fall along those lines..

I think it would take the irrational religion of statism for that to happen and I don't think statism has much more time on this Earth. We're seeing the beginning of the end of it right now.

I'm not going to accuse you of being racist, but you may be ethnocentric.  It's true that here in our country, a lot of "the grunts" speak Spanish (but NOT because they all come from Mexico; they come from a number of different countries with different histories and cultures).  But that's not the case in other parts of the world.  In Europe, "the grunts" may speak Portuguese, or some Eastern European language.  In Africa, they may speak French, or any one of a million different languages.  In the Middle East, grunts tend to come from southeast Asia, so they're certainly not speaking Spanish.  And in SE Asia itself, who even knows; India alone has over 40 different official languages spoken by its citizens.

Thank goodness for us, English is, at this point in time, the international language of business.  We got off so lucky.  Keep in mind that the U.S. + the U.K. + Australia + New Zealand make up only a small percentage of humanity (I'm leaving Canada out because it's officially bilingual).  The U.K.'s empire tanked a century ago, Australia and NZ never pulled off much more than abusing their natives, and our empire is staggering on the brink of economic collapse.

OK, I've meandered way, way off-subject, unless I now manage to draw a parallel between the United Nations and the Alliance, with New Hampshire playing the role of Whitefall, and, um... OK this seque needs work.

Mary and Sarah both did the happy dance over the Castle segment.

But not me. No, I would never be so undignified!

I have a 6 year old to be my "candy beard". No silly dancing required.

Considering how fast we adapted to the metric system, I guess we would be screwed.
