I agree that right now Russell is a divot, but he could inspire others
"others?"

Let's put our cards on the table.
Anyone who is a regular poster on this forum is already more willing to take action, and yes, even some sacrifice, to gain more Liberty, than 90% of the "general population".

Soo....
Are YOU going to jail for an act of CD any time soon?
I don't mean "maybe in a few years and if a hundred other people would".
I mean, would YOU, personally, have the cojones to intentionally get arrested for a nonviolent act?

I'll start: for me, the answer is no. Partly because I don't think it's necessary nor likely to be effective, and partly because I don't have the nuts.
There it is. At least I'm honest.

Necessary= Yes

Effective= I guess we will see

Cojones=I also don't have the "nuts" or the temperment.

Kat Kanning

I was ready to go to jail tomorrow, but looks like it won't be necessary.

Dave Ridley

it's a well written article but ya i disagree with some of the conclusions, and so does one of our long dead mentors:

"Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also a prison."

- Thoreau

Kat Kanning

Added that quote to the top of the forum.

Quoteit's a well written article

I didn't think it was that well written.  It seemed to ramble on.  The points weren't connected well.  He drew a false dichotomy between "creation" and "destruction".  As Picasso will tell you, frequently something must be destroyed in order that something new may be created.  Or to put it another way, as the song says, "every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end."

Um put that Beer down and step back from the keyboard.

PowerPenguin

As the unofficial self-proclaimed security guru, perhaps he's an agent provocateur! 8-) Probably not, but still someone has a temper and it's not me.

I'm young.  I don't have anyone too terribly attached to me besides ol' mom and dad.  I'm a prime candidate for jailtime in the name of the cause.  I'm a college student.  I get the feeling that I'm going to become a tax-ignorer in the next five years.  The cajones are building, friend.  If not for trying to cause massive revolution, then at least to know that I'm not committing evil acts through funding violence against others.

I would suggest you think about how much good you can do if you get elected to a State Rep position.

Lloyd Danforth

Yeah,  we get enough state reps and they can use their influence to get the CD people sprung from jail.

Braddogg - just get less than 2 years in the slammer and you can run next time! (the filing period is closed this year)

I think we need some people in the FSP to get into the senate as well... only problem for me being is that you must be 30... and my senator is already pretty great. Even if the house votes unanimously to amend the constitution on some issue... the senate can still block it very easily.

The best that many reps can do is block the bad bills from the senate.

How influential are reps? I was always under the impression that the answer was not at all.

Not much?   ;)  Seriously, though, I'm not meant for being a politician.  However, there are other things I can do for the liberty movement out of jail.  I envision there some day being a dozen KFP-type papers across the Free State, under an umbrella organization (for funding, story-swapping, and to have a handful of full-time staff doing support work alongside part-time volunteers), and I'd love to work full-time behind the scenes in that organization (layout, copy-editing, administration . . . that sort of thing).  Going to jail isn't a lifelong dream I've been meaning to fulfill  :P  But, if my concious calls for it, I'm ready to do things that may land me in jail.  It probably won't be active CD like Russell's flyering, but more passive, like ignoring tax laws.
