That would be nice, but I for one hope that the media will one day be free from all control.

How can that be?  Someone must own the printing presses and transmitters.  Or are you referring to government control?

Government control, of course.

I was not referring to government control, but rather private control.  Below my name it says Christian Anarchist.  Why in the world would you think I hoped for the Libertarian Party to take over the government and use force to control the media?

I envision there some day being a dozen KFP-type papers across the Free State
AWESOME.  :broc:
You just made my day week month.

KFP rocks. We need one like this in every town in the State of NH.
When it comes time to gear up, please do post here and/or let me know.
I want to lend my support in any way I can.

I agree that right now Russell is a divot, but he could inspire others
"others?"

Let's put our cards on the table.
Anyone who is a regular poster on this forum is already more willing to take action, and yes, even some sacrifice, to gain more Liberty, than 90% of the "general population".

Soo....
Are YOU going to jail for an act of CD any time soon?
I don't mean "maybe in a few years and if a hundred other people would".
I mean, would YOU, personally, have the cojones to intentionally get arrested for a nonviolent act?

I'll start: for me, the answer is no. Partly because I don't think it's necessary nor likely to be effective, and partly because I don't have the nuts.
There it is. At least I'm honest.

I'm young.  I don't have anyone too terribly attached to me besides ol' mom and dad.  I'm a prime candidate for jailtime in the name of the cause.  I'm a college student.  I get the feeling that I'm going to become a tax-ignorer in the next five years.  The cajones are building, friend.  If not for trying to cause massive revolution, then at least to know that I'm not committing evil acts through funding violence against others.

I would have to say that what Russell did is very brave, and he has inspired me to become more active. I don't think there is anything bad to say about what he did, and the fact that a few people don't support him on this makes me sad :(

Please don't expect everyone to support every action. Don't give a second thought when negativity is thrown at you. Try to brush it off. Consider comments a rudeness that doesn't deserve a rude response.

I say this because it wasn't all that long ago that I could shrug some losses of liberty off. We all have different breaking points. If someone isn't there yet, they may rant about overreactions and counter-productive actions. They just aren't outraged. Arguing or explaining probably won't help.

Let them follow the path at their own pace. They aren't alone and may do some good along the way.

I never got the impression that Russ would ever hurt anything but a fly. Oh and Seth must have been joking. I've been gone for a couple of days, so sorry for chiming in late.

Thank you so much for your enthusiasm  ;D  I'll be sure to keep you, and everyone here, up-to-date when this takes off.

The "New Hampshire Gazette" ... leans toward the far left
... which is why I'm not even remotely supporting it.
People who generally favor smaller government but who are not familiar with libertarianism (let alone anarchocapitalism) all too often get the wrong idea from papers like that. They think we're "lefties" or something, when in fact, they're the ones most likely to come solidly over to our side, once they've learned that we are in fact more in favor of the free market than they previously had been.

Better to compete with a paper like this head-on. Or submit stories and subvert the paper to be entirely libertarian  :icon_pirat:

I agree.  At UNH, there was a conservative paper that is being subverted into a libertarian paper.  But for a libertarian paper to join forces out-and-out with a proud conservative paper is going to make half of the libertarian message disappear.

It makes me sad that Russell is in jail, too.

I just think that there are other ways of slowing down the speeding bus of totalitarinism than throwing yourself in front of it, and I wish that Russell hadn't gotten run over by it.

Is that equivalent to "not supporting him?"  I don't know.

cathleeninnh

Just because you weigh benefits and risks differently, doesn't mean you can't support Russell. I am pretty sure he would agree with me. I am going to write him so he doesn't feel left out.
