Hello...

I wish to move to NH (the Claremont/Charlestown area) in the very near future. I am on a very low, fixed income, but wish to purchase land in a rural area and place a home on it. I am confined to a wheelchair and would greatly appreciate any info concerning accessibility and assistance to those with disabilities.

Kat Kanning

Welcome jodylea.  How did you find out about the Free State Project?

JodyLea

Hi, katdillon! I first found out about the Free State Project a few years ago through an ex. Ironically, I am currently planning on marrying a man who lives in NH and more anxious than ever to relocate. He owns his own home, but wishes to sell it so we can purchase a home together, one that's in a rural area and wheelchair accessible.

Kat Kanning

Cool :)  Can you explain more about what you need..."info concerning accessibility and assistance to those with disabilities".    What kind of features would make a rural area wheelchair accessible?  What kind of assistance are you looking for?

JodyLea

Well, I do most of my shopping in Claremont and public buildings seem to be much more accessible than they are here in VT. I live in Ludlow and there are very few buildings here that I can access without assistance. I wish to live in a rural area in NH, but where a city such as Claremont or West Lebanon is nearby for shopping, medical services, etc. At this point, I need financial assistance more than anything. I get very little financial assistance here in VT; I receive SSI, food money, and fuel assistance, but I get no assistance for the mortgage on my mobile home because it is a mobile home and it's on a rented lot. I attend college and am a client of VR/Independent Living so I get assistance with home accessibility and college-related costs. I haven't contacted VR/Independent Living in NH yet so I'm not sure what happens with them, whether everything transfers from one state to another or I have to be placed on a waiting list to begin receiving services in NH.

Have you take the pledge?
www.pledgebank.com/first1000?

Welcome to the site.

If you are nice to Lloyd he might build you a ramp. :D

Welcome to the Free State JodyLea :)

JodyLea

Thank You both for welcoming me! Yes, I signed a pledge when I first registered with the Free State Project a few years ago, but I just signed this one as well.

Did Dreepa say something about a "curmudgeonly Connecticut yankee"?

;)

Hot.

I started to say "hotter'n hell", but it is hell.
