I started writing this song on the same night I wrote "The Peaceful Rebel" (while Russell was in Prison) . . . I have tweeked it some . . . But I'm kind of stuck for now (it to will evolve further) but I thought I'd share this early incarnation - which was sung in Keene & in Concord while our friend was in Prison:

On The Road To Freedom                By John Connell

Some people say, If you don't like it here, why don't you leave
And if you don't vote, then you should not complain
But if they have all the answers, and I guess they think they do
Then tell me how my country went insane

They're searching Grandma at the airport, and our children in the schools
They've got roadblocks, and cameras on the street
They've got their "No-Knock-Warrants", and they're kicking in our doors
It sure looks like a Police State to me

Now, we're on the road to Freedom, and we're trying somthing new
and Non-cooperation is the key
You can keep on trying all the things you've tried before
But when you're ready, you can come with me

Some people say If you don't like it here why don't you leave
And if you don't vote then you should not complain
But if they have all the answers, and I guess they think they do
Then tell me how my country went insane

I'm so glad you liked it Ms. Kanning  :)
I got a sence that I was on the right track with these songs when I saw your smile - the first time I shared them with anyone, in front of the Post Office in Keene.

That sence was confirmed in Dover.

kickass. i think we need another folk song revolution.

do you have plans to record it, at least for web streaming? i have friends with a forum (in the normal sense, not in the discussion board sense) for artists and musicians to promote their work, and it gets some traffic.

lemme know either way. i'd love to hear it sung.

Very nice, John.  This is the type of stuff I was talking about!

I must say, however, that we need to find a way to appeal to emotion for greater responsibility (and thus liberty) or those who appeal to emotion will end up crushing us with statism. Remember the liberty trees, songs, "Common Sense," and other major factors in America's founding.

Great work!

John

Thanks for the positive feedback . . .

It takes MAJOR inspiration for me to write songs.
I don't think most people understand how these ideas evolve from cognative thoughts to sounds (and/or other art) . . .

. . . In many ways, the public schools (though they don't get all of the "credit") were beating the artist out of me . . . and so I shrugged before they destoyed it. . . Now I am in the "Gultch" with you . . . AND NOW I"M FREE to share my art with you.

The fire never went out!  I just need to stoke it a bit!  (Yes, I need to re-learn a few things.)  But, I'm a slow-and-easy kind of guy. So there is no need (for me) to build a bonfire out of these (red-hot) coals.
We are HOME now - we are among friends.
Thanks for comming to the "gultch."

John

Well, maybe it's not quite the "Gultch" YET, . . .

John

Now I'm working on a blues song . . .

I'm having some fun playing these . . .  ;D 8) :o ;) :) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D 8)

These songs evolve as I "work on" / play them   :-*

[More Freedom songs MAY  8) ::) follow . . .]

The young man who got arrested on the evening of the 9th seemed to really like your new song. It looked like the words were making the wheels in his head turn. Maybe he'll show up on here...

John

I noticed that to.  I thought it might & that's why I wrote them.
That dude definatly needed to hear it.  I never start with the acappella, but I did not know how long he would stay - so I did that just for him.
Hey the gal who was closing up and came to close the Main St. door held the door wide-open while she listened to the end of that and then "The Peaceful Rebel."

Anyway, I noticed it was past 7p.m. and I had to jump to FTL with today's news from Nashua . . .

So ya, the gal who was closing stopped to listen; and I got a real sence that maybe she was listening to somthing she had read the week before in the Keene Free Press.  She must have had that interest for some reason.  She looked like this was quite familiar - yet she needed to hear it.  The other gal came to the door and also listened to the end of it.

When I thanked the dude for his non-cooperation, he (Seth) said that his non-cooperation was only "by default."  He thanked me for the songs.
Until someone comes HOME and steps up, I'll "need" to do more of this.

On "backpack night" I reached/spoak to several unexpected hearts/souls.  I hope my art contines to reach folks well beyond those whom are already converted to Freedom.
