Ebay refuses to sell teacher editions of textbooks to homeschoolers

I think Ebay has gotten pretty crappy lately, this is just the icing on the cake.  When they started raising their listing fees and other fees then people started boosting their shipping fees sky high.  I understand raising them if you want to cover your output fees but I've seen stuff on there cost 9.99 and the shipping is $25 when you can get the same thing in the store for less after combining cost + shipping. :-\

We have accumulated a lot of schooling materials and are gradually finishing them with our youngest. We won't sell them on Ebay, and haven't thought about using the Renaissance Reading Room. We'll probably lend or sell them locally.

I decided to register for ebay a while back and did bid on a few items without winning any of the auctions.  After a couple of weeks, I had my account canceled for violation of policy, but they wouldn't tell me what I did wrong. I don't have any intension of going back.

I used to get those account cancellation emails all the time from Ebay, they are spoof emails, that's what Ebay calls them.  There not really from Ebay, they are from somebody looking to get you to respond with your personal info.  Your account probably isn't canceled you should, (if you want), look on Ebay and see if it's canceled otherwise don't ever respond to those emails.  Ebay has a special spoof email address in their fraud department that you forward those spoof emails to and they investigate them. :)

I also received several notifications that my current bids were canceled, and I get the same warning when I log into my ebay account.  This was not a spoof.

Oh, well that sucks, sorry! :)

Sellers do that because eBay takes a chunk of the $9.99, but not the $25.

P.T. Barnum must have known internet auctions were coming when he wrote about suckers being born every minute.

I know why they raised the shipping, I remember thinking that's a clever way to get around the higher Ebay charges.  I just think that some sellers went way too high with it.  Have you seen the auctions that have a nice item for .99 cents and the shipping is high?  I used to think that was neat because the item would be cheaper than at a store until my sister told me the downside of buying something this way.  I'd only be eligible for a .99 cent refund.  Yup, P.T. Barnum had a point. :)

I totally understand them not allowing the sale of guns.  There are too many state and local laws around guns and besides it would be impossible to keep minors from buyng them.  You could sell a gun on ebay part by part, though.
They could, probably open a section with pre aproved buyers and sellers, but, it is not worth it to them.
They don't allow the sale of Nazi items either.  I understand this too.  The ration of shit they would get over it, would not justify the little money they would make on it.
You can't deny that Ebay is a phenomena.

Each gun has one part that makes it a "gun," legally, and that is the part with the serial number.  Usually, this is the frame or receiver.   A stripped frame is still a gun, and anyone buying one has to go through all the hoops regardless of where they buy it.

So, no, you can't buy a gun "part by part," because you can never buy that one crucial part without going through a dealer.

I just have to share a thought I was having when I read, (tried), this post I was so relieved that it didn't have anything to do with my post because it looks so complicated. I'm slowly but surely getting wasted today so I'm sure my posts are going to get stupider than ever today.  Oh yeah and I might spell wrong too! :)

I was browsing old threads, and looking at a current thread on selling books, and recalled that Seekers group was talking about setting up a coded "lending library" of members' books on a private server (so that there could be books lent between members, of various topics, without any internet record of the exchange, while still providing a way for you to retrieve the book should you want it back for some reason). Sounded like an idea that would work for trading homeschool materials too, if someone was willing to host / create it... Any takers?
Anyone who does this might be interested in this software:

Looked at the software link, and it's nice, but what about those that really don't want to scan/image the barcodes, and the many printed materials that don't have barcodes?

You can enter the ISBN manually.

Delicious Monster is really cool stuff. I can't use it, because I'm still running 10.2.8 (I'm too cheap to upgrade until I buy my next Mac!)

I want it just to be able to catalog CDs and DVDs. It's embarrassing how many times we've talked about a movie, then gone out and bought a copy, only to find out we already owned a copy.  :-[

MaineShark

What about things without ISBN?

I have a lot of technical data for equipment that I install, which isn't "published" so it doesn't have an ISBN.

Being able to catalog that would be pretty cool.
