Nashua hopes to crack down on pollution from idling cars

NASHUA, N.H. (AP) -- Nashua (New Hampshire) hopes to crack down on air pollution from idling cars.

The city is posting 142 "No Idling" signs near schools, stores and other locations to get drivers to turn off their engines when they dash into stores or wait for the kids at school or sports practice.

Coordinator Angela Vincent says idling wastes gas, endangers health and harms the environment.

The state has an anti-idling law, but its rarely enforced. Under the law, vehicles can be left idling for five minutes if the temperature

Good to know that particular stupidity is shared with elsewhere... though it *not* being NH would be nice.

Toronto Police Launch Anti-Idling Blitz "... anyone caught leaving their engine on for more than three minutes can be fined up to $100 plus a $25 surcharge." According to the article, fines for a single continuous offence can accumulate up to $5000. 'ya cream-puffs ;)
