People in the Midwest don't know how to deal with ice storms. Snow, no problem. Ice, though, they just have no idea how to deal with it. And I say this after having lived in Iowa, Kansas and Wisconsin for a decade. :)

Now in the South, we know exactly how to deal with ice storms: Go out and skate. The power's out anyway...

I do like the boyscout motto "Be Prepared". What would be more essential to prepare for then survival? If you are prepared for the worst when a moderate disaster happens you will be sitting pretty while the masses that did not prepare are fighting each other to survive.
