Stuff like THIS is happening here:

Anybody here from Welch's district? WE NEED *YOUR* HELP. NOW.

If the house passes this and the senate blocks it... he should attach either this bill or a bill to repeal the entire marijuana posession law, as a rider to every single bill that the house doesnt like but the senate does.

Recumbent ReCycler

We could try to work out deals between pro-marijuana Democrats and pro-gun Republicans to get them to compromise and repeal both marijuana laws and gun laws.

d_goddard

Note that all the hypothesizing and stategizing is premature, we don't get to square one unless we get a constituent from his district to contact him.

They should try legalizing ALCOHOL first, and ending the unconstitutional state monopoly on liquor.

I agree.

As costly to the state as this might be, it would be a tremendous first step in getting the government out of things it has no business in.

I gotta snap y'all back to reality:
This thread is turning into a run-of-the-mill Libertarian non-action debating society.

If you want to see the MJ issue hit head-on, help us find a friendly constituent in Rockingham District 8 (Hampstead, Kingston, Plaistow)

Why this one district?
Because that guy said (if he wins) that he would propose the bill.

They'd probably comprimise to tell us to screw off

After reading and learning about this issue its nowhere near as big as it seems. State taxation and control of liquor stores in other states is extremely strict.

I'm interested in how the NH state liqour stores compare to the Swedish state liqour stores, because the Swedish ones are pretty damn shitty. I recently turned 20, which is the age limit at the swedish liqour stores, so I've been having my first experiences with them over the past weeks. The selection is good, but everything else is just... Well the purpose of the state liqour stores is to get people to drink less, so the stores are purposefully bad to get people to not want to shop there and thus get the nation to drink less (doesn't work obviously).

* Beer bottles and cans have to be sold individually because they figure selling beer in packages containing multiple bottles/cans would get people to buy more beer. No sixpacks, cases or kegs - you have to get your beer in individual cans/bottles and carry them home in bags. Having a party? Look forward to figuring out how to carry 50 individual cans to your car.
* Opening hours: 10-6 mo-fri, saturday 10-2, sun closed.
* No fridges. All beer is out on the shelf - warm. They want to discourage people from drinking beer out on the street by only selling warm beer.
* Beer tax - 4 dollars a gallon. If you by a bottle of liqour, 81% of the price is taxes (sales tax + alcohol tax)

And so on...

For starters, the NH state package stores only sell liquor and wine. Other stores (grocery stores, convenience stores) sell beer and wine. "Liquor" is distilled spirits above a certain alcohol content.

Beer is sold in six-packs (rarely), individually (occasionally, usually in larger sizes like quarts or 40 ounce bottles), 12-packs, cases (24-packs), 30-packs, "party balls" (miniature kegs), and kegs of all sizes from "pony" to "full keg".

The NH package stores also have limited hours, but some are open on Sunday. Here's a complete map of the stores:

This is not the case in NH. Beer in grocery or convencience stores is sold cold. In some states (Oklahoma and Missouri, to name two that I know), beer exceeding 3.2% alcohol by volume can only be sold warm. I believe Oklahoma state package stores sell cold beer up to 5%, but don't quote me on that.

Quote* Beer tax - 4 dollars a gallon. If you by a bottle of liqour, 81% of the price is taxes (sales tax + alcohol tax)

I don't think NH has any specific alcohol tax; liquor can only be sold through the state stores, and the profit on those sales substitutes for taxes that would be collected if liquor was sold on the open market.

All comments above are subject to correction by those who know more about NH alcohol laws than do I.  ;)

I suppose this is my lesson about the importance of naming a thread properly.
This one should be called POT LEGALIZATION 2007
Admins, can you do the needful?
Folks, please post specifically to help, if at all possible. It would suck if we failed to legalize because we could not get Step 1 of the process.

Thanks.
