Nashua residents: Looks like Costco doesn't want your business. The company has decided they don't want anyone carrying, concealed or openly, in their stores.

While they certainly have the right to do this, you have the right to go to Sam's Club instead. :)

Never heard of em
But they can still go fuck themselves.

(I'd CCW in there regardless... because the costs outweigh the benefits) BUT I'd take my business somewhere else if I had the option

Costco is the 5th largest store in America (7th in the World).  In New England, Sams is not a big deal, but people that don't like Costco tend to go to BJs.

This is not a company wide policy.  I would know.  However, there is a company wide policy that people who work at Costco are not allowed to bring guns into the store.  I have only been to 2 Costcos, but neither of them has a policy on banning guns for members.

National OSHA regulations have created a de-facto ban on carrying guns at work nationwide. Only a "designated security officer" is allowed to carry.

Unless there's a way to make everyone a "designated security officer." Hmm...

Hmmm. OSHA is simply irrelevant in the majority of workplaces, so I'm not very familiar with them. Do you have a cite with more information about this?

It's not that much of an issue, since in NH you mostly have BJ's and Sam's Club (Wal-Mart went through this last year and had to drop its no-firearms policy after massive protests). The only Costco I know of is in Nashua.

You've never heard of Costco?  :o

Nope.

I have heard of BJ's and Sam's club but I've never actually seen a Sam's Club. BJ's are kind of popular in New England, the nearest one to me is in Tilton about 60 miles away though.

Wal Mart's national policy is to not ban guns. Sometimes rogue managers or new stores need a call from Bentonville to set them straight, but they do get set straight.

Back to Costco... in the link that was posted, the shopper requested a policy, and they came up with something lame, and he asked for something official on letterhead. The letter he received came from the manager of that particular store, which is no evidence at all of a national policy.

I'm not saying they don't have such a national policy, but they didn't receive any evidence of one.

I'm surprised they didn't say it was a state law.  I went into the wal-mart in Plymouth a little less than a year ago and they wouldn't sell me lighter fluid because I am a minor.  When my mom tried to buy it they said they couldn't sell it to her either because she would just give it to me.  Their excuse was that it was a law.  They said that I could be an informant working on a sting for the police and if they caught them selling lighter fluid to a minor they could get fined $5,000.  Well I said 'Show me the law'.  They couldn't.  And I tried to find it, but they just made it up.  We complained to the management but they would never respond to us.

The ironic part is that they could sell the actual lighter to me.  I could also buy knives and R-rated movies there.  But god forbid I get my hands on lighter fluid.

They probably were afraid you would give it to Russell. :)

Either there is not a national policy or the stores in TN refuse to follow it (thus making it not a national policy).  I am pretty sure I would have heard of a national policy at Costco if there was one.

Is there anybody else here that would ignore this ban and CCW anyway? I respect property rights in principle, but enforcement is the responsibility of the owner. You run the risk of getting kicked out if discovered, but you also have the benefit of being able to defend someone else or your self if the store was held up or a gunman came in on the attack.

No way. Any store with a policy like that is not getting my business.

Costco (like most stores) does not want anyone to try to stop a gunman from robbing the store if they are already inside the store.
