Visiting NH over New Year's?

So I'm wanting to check out NH before making the move.    I have about 10 days off for Xmas and was thinking of spending 2 or 3 days poking around up there.  I'm a big hockey fan and I was thinking about checking out a Manchester Monarchs game.  Is there much going on up there in the dead of winter?  Or is everyone stuck inside, surrounded by a couple feet of snow?

I'd like to see as much as I can of southern and mid New Hampshire while I'm there.  Any thoughts, suggestions, etc... on what I should do, where I should stay???

There should be a lot of porcupine stuff going on, but I don't know what yet.

My husband...who also posts on the board, is a huge Monarchs fan and has seasons tickets. I'm sure he'll see your post and reply, but in the mean time, I'm glad to offer him up to take you to a game and out for a drink in Manchester :)

I have been wanted an excuse to go to a Monarchs game.

Thanks for the replies, everyone.  It looks like the Monarchs have home games on Dec. 29 and Dec. 31.

As of now I'm TENTATIVELY planning on arriving Dec. 28.  I haven't seen any FSP events planned during that time but I know it's a few months off.  Not sure yet if I'll head back home on the 31st or wait until after New Year's.  I plan on visiting as many towns as possible and checking out the job/housing market up there.  From everything I've read it seems like Southern NH is where I should concentrate.  More jobs, people, places to stay.   I'll be arriving at the Manchester airport, I assume they have car rental agencies in NH?  :)

Here are the towns I'd like to check out - Manchester, Keene, Nashua, Concord, Derry and Portsmouth.  It certainly looks like I'll have lots of driving to do!  Does anyone have any ideas on other places I should look, or places to stay away from?

I'm in the heating & cooling biz, though I guess I'll soon be in just the heating biz. ;)    I've got some things keeping me here for a little while, but I would hope I could find a decent job up there sometime next year...

Swing by Northwood, if you like.  Nice rural town, but only 20 minutes from Concord.

Bah!  Pretty much all commercial buildings have A/C, and it's popular with homeowners, as well.  It does get warm here in the summer, and any building with a large number of people inside is going to have to deal with body heat, anyway.

Ah, I see that the bride has generously offered me up for a Monarchs game and a few pints...

Absolutely!  Standing offer to any porcs, just let me know which game you're interested in attending.  My father and I have season tix @ center ice, glass high, best seats in the house.

We can grab a few pints over @ the Wild Rover or Shaskeen pub...but the late night liberty conversation, around the fire on the back porch, is more spirited.  We're NH natives, but becoming the unofficial FSP welcome wagon of Manchester's north end.

So it looks like I'm gonna have to postpone the trip.  >:(   I swapped one part-time job for another and am now working like crazy.  Total of 76 hours this week.  I get a week off from my reg. job but have to work that week at the other.  The good news is I should be able to get my finances in order and save up some cash to make the move before too long.  So hopefully I'll make a trip in the spring...
