Formulating a plan to make the move

Howdy all,

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel!  I'll be wrapping up my schooling in FEB. 2007, and I think I'm going to be making the move to NH shortly thereafter.  I'll be graduating as an LPN (male nurse...murse??) and then just have to take the state test.  I plan on testing here in FLA, then transferring my license to NH.  In the months between now & then I plan to start laying the groundwork for a smooth transition.

As soon as financially feasible, I plan to begin persuing my RN, and there's a new health-care college in Manchester that has 1 & 1/2 year LPN-to-BSN program.  Due to this, I'll no boubt be moving to the Manchester area.

If anyone reading this knows any info about the nursing profession in that neck of the woods, that would be great.  I'll be doing a lot of the leg work long-distance, but if somebody has a wife/bro or sis/friend who has any nuggets of advice, I'd appreciate it greatly.  Such as: hospitals that employ LPN's, what the pay is, depressing horror stories of how useless LPN's are regarded by local hospitals...you know, that kind of stuff.

Also, not set in stone, but I've been toying with the idea of a visitation.  Sensible plan before uprooting one's life and moving to a brand spankin new area, right?  Depending on some things, I may head up that way during my X-mas break, sometime between the 16th & 23rd of DEC.  If not, I'll have to drop in in FEB.

I guess I'll have to start updating my wardrobe of shorts and flip-flops to stuff that's a little more weather resistant.

Later,
Matt

Dartmouth hitchcock medical center and any of their various branch hospitals all over the state are excellent institutions. A nurse in Lancaster makes an hourly wage of around $13 (my father asked once when I was there for a checkup, assuming they were paid handsomely) and I'm sure they make twice that down south and in Lebanon at the big hospital (It has a "mall" inside! Just a few shops and restaurants but I mean c'mon that's amazing)

First and foremost... AWESOME! Looking forward to having yet another activist in the Free State! :D

Second, have you signed the F1K pledge yet?? If not, *PLEASE* do:

Lastly, I'll put in a plug for living and working in Concord, where I live.
The Concord Hospital is world-class, and there are plenty of other specialist offices nearby (ie, elder care places, independent doctor's offices, etc)
Living and working in Concord makes it super-easy to engage the legislature -- let the lawmakers have a piece of your mind! It's extremely powerful to do so, and it does get real, concrete (if incremental) results.

The main street is nice, Manchester is close (<20 minutes) if you want a more Metropolitan experience, and "nowhere in the woods" is close, too, if you want that :)

Excellent choice; I saw a lot of nursing openings when I was looking for work in NH. Made me wish I had gotten a degree in nursing like my sister. I'm sure you'll find something.

Another excellent choice; there are a lot of us Porcs in the Manchester area, so you'll be able to find people to hang out with easily and activities to do even faster.
Also, if you want to rent rooms by the month in Manchester, there are several FSP members who do this or are planning to. That should find you a good, safe, cheap place to live until you get your bearings.

Hope your move goes well!

Already did, right at its inception  ;D

Thanks, all, for the info.  I figure anywhere within 30 miles of Manchester is my target area, so Concord is definitely on the list.

Out of curiosity who is that in your avatar? I've seen it used elsewhere

Kat Kanning

I know another freestater murse in the Winchester area.  I'll try and PM you some contact info, if I can find it.

"Johnny Chimpo" ... from the movie Super Troopers.

I suggest you rent it... might not be the best movie ever, but it's good for a laugh.

On-topic, Eliot Hospital, located in Manchvegas, is a pretty high-quality facility.  Denise and I toured it back when we thought she might be carrying twins or triplets, as it as the only Level 3 NICU in the area.

I've seen super troopers... it was okay.

I used "JohnnyChimpo" (It's Afganistanimation!) as a web-handle on a few sites, so I just brought the avatar here with me.  But I had just watched The Big Lebowski for the umpteenth time when I was registering, so I went with "TheDUDE,"  ya know the Dudemeister, His Royal Dudeness.

'Preciate the info, everyone.
