I think the hamster takes a break in the morning that is why the pages get served up slowly. Or it could just be that maintenance programs are being run on the server and consuming resources, it would suck if a hard drive failed and the entire site had to be rebuilt from scratch.

If elected president will you do with the economy what you achieved with your cattle futures.

I think that belongs in a 'Stop Hillary' thread... LOL

Seeing as she has $11M already and I think spent $30M on her senate campaign, she could fund healthcare with that instead of taxing all of us.

QuoteThat happens when the server gets cold overnight because nobody's using it. Give it a while to warm up and everything will be fine.

Lies! I keep the server company on those long, cold nights... O.o

Seriously, most servers are set to run a list of house-keeping chores sometime in the early morning. It may be that one or more of these tasks is getting a bit large for the server to handle speedily, thus slowing down the main attraction. If that is the case, there are many potential ways to address this, though some of those ways are easier to implement than others.

Why don't they do what shelf stockers in your local supermarket should do..........do it when the bulk of your customers are asleep!

that is probabaly not the explanation for our morning problems .... normal unix servers do stuff at midnight or 1am. The bots also visit alot during the night.

I would like to see improvement too. It was so bad this morning that I gave up after about 5 minutes and it still hadn't loaded.

I've finally just decided to go do other things in the mornings, like maybe work.

I think Unix does it's thing at midnight unless you tamper with it. I think it was just busy busy.....or the server could have been rebooting...

All of my boxes do their daily stuff at 4 am. And something's wrong if they aren't done by 4:30. And something's REALLY wrong if I happen to notice.

The default anacron for my system runs in the 6:00am hour.  I haven't changed it because I haven't needed to.

Without more information, I'm not going to be the one to guess what's going on.

I'm asking them if their backup jobs can be run a little earlier, or if they can spread them out.

Yep, those are exactly the times everyone's having trouble.
