Ooo, I missed that on the calendar. I'll maybe even make it out to witness this.

I am thinking we need a forum to discuss our plans and ideas for activities here in nh. Our current forum is killing me and Kat told me to stop nagging her.

What are your ideas? Should we use another existing forum? Should we start another one? What domain should it be under?

I could put it on my Keene Free Press server or the one I have from Seth, if others would help me admin it. We could us FTlive or strike-the-root. I don't care that much. I just want a place to plan our nonviolent revolution.

I was just getting errors that SMF was not able to connect to the database.

You can use my forum to plan the nonviolent revolution. As an added bonus, the government bureaucrats are already reading it! :)

1. URL
No matter what happens, the site needs to be accessible via the URL "nhfree.com"
It's totally catchy and we have circulated so much material with that URL on it, it would be a waste to leave it.

2. Other Forums
strike-the-root is interesting has real smart posters, but is slow. Our sheer numbers would overwhelm it and we'd be back to bitching about how slow things are.

The FTL BBS is fast and cool; I have no doubt that homelandstupidity will also be fast and cool.
But, like STR, those forums are not NH-centric. The whole point of this exercise is to concentrate our efforts and Make Something Happen.

I love having those other sites as general-interest "feeders" -- people get the message, hang out there, and when they start to realize how oppressive their state is, come join us first on NHFree, then in NH.

That pretty much leaves us with:

3. Move the current Forum and domain name to a faster server
That way, Kat and Russ (and the other moderators) can keep their current level of access.
If I recall correctly, Error has posted that he knows good fast hosting options, and that he'd help with the low-level configuration and system administration.

Anything I can do to make option #3 a reality, just let me know.

Kat is thinking that she wants to move the forum to another server.
We would put it under nhfree.com

This morning has got to be the worst. In 2 hours I was able to make two postings and read maybe three others.

Bizarre.

It's probably something simple and easily fixed (even if the easy fix is moving to another server).

My offer to take a look (for FREE, even!) is still open.

I had a PM from Russell asking for my input on this topic when I signed in tonight. I'm sad that the Blue Light Gang kidnapped him before I could read it or reply. :(

I did reply, suggesting options 1 and 3 above, and that perhaps the nonviolent revolution planning could spin-off to another forum so that Russell and Kat won't need to host, pay for, and moderate this whole wonderful giant place any longer.

I'd be glad to help admin/moderate either or both. Being an admin here is truly an honor, as is knowing the Kannings. :)

I will voice again my opinion that we shouldn't spin off any "different" activity. This forum has a wide audience. It is well publicized as NHfree. I see people arriving in NH or this forum with one set of ideas and over time getting a a more thorough understanding of freedom and the challenges we face. Spinning off into different forums would turn into "this discussion doesn't belong" as people explore their beliefs.

Having a number of moderators is good, but to relieve Kat from stress and overwork, maybe we need additional administrators. Split duties, or something.
