I've been putting off signing the FSP Statement of Intent mostly because, well, I don't like signing stuff, usually

I understand.... once you make the move... you can sign (and the First1000) www.pledgebank.com/first1000
You can do both under the alias of eques.  And if you girlfriend is also for liberty she can sign as well.

There is an FSPers who is giving 2 weeks free rent in a trailer...I can get you in contact with him if you want.

I did sign the FSP today.  :)

As for my girlfriend, give her some time... I'm sure there'll be a hot-button issue that'll awaken her to activism!  She's a fairly laid-back, mellow individual.  I'm somewhat reserved, but I tend to be a lot more nervous and spontaneous.  Oh, we've had our frictions... ;)

Where is the trailer located?  How big is it?

Cool (and now F1K right ;))

I think that the trailer is in Southern NH. Let me find his email address and I can pm you. ( I have never seen the trailer so don't know much about it -- other than he has a standing offer)  I think it is in Belmont.

To be fair to the movement, I'll wait to sign the F1k until I get settled (hopefully by the end of this year).  I'm taking Kat's gentle warning to heart, and I wouldn't want to end up having to move away from New Hampshire and somehow skew the F1k numbers (if even by 1!).

Glad to hear you're coming, eques!  I hope you and your girlfriend will sign the F1K pledge soon, since the point is to get 1000 signers by December 31 of this year.  You've already demonstrated your intent to settle here, and that's the point of the pledge.

And as I see it, signing the pledge doesn't mean you intend to become a superactivist for life (although thankfully, many have started down that path).  If you're moving here for freedom, and your girlfriend is moving here for you, she is also moving for freedom.

My brand of activism will most likely take the form of getting to know people and attempting to instill in them a sense of logic and rationality... and that'll take a good deal of practice as I'm only a fledgling in rationality myself.  ;)

Well, I'm going to be coming up to New Hampshire this weekend (October 28 and 29) to look at places.  I'll be focusing on weekly rentals (totaling no more than $600/mo).  Also, since I know when I'll be in NH for good, it makes it easier to write cover letters and such.

Congratulations on taking the plunge. There truly is no better time than when you have nothing holding you back (like a mortgage, or being close to reaching a pension, or having kids' schooling to disrupt).

I'll just offer this caution about weekly rentals: they tend to be much higher per month than monthly rental or six-month leases. I know you're looking for a place to crash until you find a job, so you can then seek longer-term housing at a lower rate.

Do what you can. Just get to NH, in a way that lets you stay permanently!

From what I've read regarding others who have moved in, is it the case that I should keep my involvement in the FSP to myself unless it comes up somehow?  I did read one situation where it turned out well for the poster, however.

I understand that the people on here probably won't mind.  ;)

Kat Kanning

I've never found it necessary to hide my involvement.  It seems to be a problem if you're running for office, at times.  Dawn gets a lot of grief over it, at least.

I know a guy who works for a company that makes a particular nasty bomb for the Gov. Does he run around saying 'Hey, I work for X Company and we make nasty bombs'? Does it matter?
Here in NH most folks don't care why you moved here, merely that you are here. (Kathy Sullivan is an exception) Most folks get tired of someone telling them what they should do, be you a statist or an anarchist.
Live your life as a free person. Show by example.
My 2 cents.

When I first moved, it seems like I got asked about a hundred times why I moved here.

See? Didn't I tell you?  ;)

Hey Kat! Why did you move here?

Kat Kanning

It was for the snow.  I wish we'd get some soon.
