At DadaOrwell's suggestion, I'm working up a Web site which will show off public surveillance cameras, complete with pictures and Google Maps and whatever other features might be useful. If you have any ideas on additional features for the site, let me know.

And if you know of any public surveillance cameras, take pictures of them now. I should have the alpha version of the site ready to go in a few days.

Dave Ridley

honored by you taking me up on a suggestion I had already forgotten making LOL

are you thinking just in new hampshire or anywhere?    I don't think there are many of these in NH...

error

I'm designing it so it can accept a surveillance camera anywhere on the world's surface. It doesn't have to be in New Hampshire, or even in the U.S. 8)

Will there be any verification?

Verification of what, exactly?

If users submit their locations, verification that there is actually one there. Because a frappr map could be used otherwise.

error

Frappr isn't nearly flexible enough. And it, er, keeps its users under surveillance, something I want to avoid to the largest extent possible.

There's only one way to verify the presence of cameras, and that's to have other people go and look and see if a camera is there. And yes, I planned for that.

Good points.

I dont know of any in NH... I'll be surprised to find if there are.

This list is just for government cameras right? Not private security cameras

error

Yep, just government cameras.

I may allow for private cameras which point outward at public areas, simply because the government likes to seize their recordings whenever anything happens or they just feel like it.

And I didn't think there were any in Madison...until I spotted one today. Next thing you know, I'd found eight of them. I got pictures of them all.

Let us know when it goes live. I'll provide documentation of those I can find in my area.

Most will be government cameras aimed at government parking lots (which are open to visiting members of the public).

It's excellent to see that you're working on this. We shall soon track ALL government surveillance systems for the public to see!

This should annoy the government to no end. :)

Are you going with my suggestion of a Google Maps API?

citizen_142002

I think there is a camera on Rt 101 in Keene. At the lights where Main Street meets 101. It sure looks like a surveillance camera.

Any confirmation from anyone in Keene?
