CONCORD - The House voted without debate Wednesday to eliminate the discount tokens used on New Hampshire?s toll roads.

Drivers now enjoy a 50 percent discount if they use tokens.State savings and revenues from its toll roads would jump about $5 million a year if it eliminates tokens and does not offer a discount on the transponder.

But the House voted 195-89 to pass the bill, which would take effect Jan. 1 if enacted into law.

Second paragraph:

"The bill - which now goes to the Senate - would save the state about $750,000 to buy and handle the tokens."

Typical spin reporting. The start off saying it will save money. Then way down in the middle you find out it will generate an additional 5 million in state revenue.

The paragraph should have read:

The bill - which now goes to the Senate - will cost motorists about $5,000,000 by eliminateing NH tokens.

I think the bill is HB604
