Oh he's gone (from the FSP), but he just can't resist all this stimulating conversation. >:D

Quote from: EarShould we bomb the U.S. in order to vaporize terrorists like Timothy McVeigh?
No.  That would be illegal.

So it's only terrorists who come from other countries that should be bombed.  I see.

Quote from: EarWhat country should we bomb in order to vaporize terrorists like the 9/11 attackers... Terroristan?
Not necessarily any specific country.  But find the a-holes responsible and drop all the bombs you want.

Oh, now it becomes clear.  You're saying we should bomb A-HOLES, not COUNTRIES.  But only if they aren't American a-holes.

OK, I'll go tell the guys at the Pentagon to get some stealth bombers ready, and you get busy sending invitations to all the non-American terrorists you can think of to come to a big party on an uncharted island in international waters.  Don't forget the RSVP so we know how many bombs we'll need.

Think how great it'll be after we drop a bomb on each individual terrorist in the world!  It'll be just like that time when we won the War on Drugs, and suddenly there were no more drug dealers or drug addicts left in the world!

I'm with you.  I've seen the stickers that read "I love my country but fear my government."  The FEDGOV is indeed scary

You're pretty scary too, Mr. A-Hole Bomber.

Quote from: Quantrill on November 13, 2006, 07:11 PM NHFT
So if I love my country but not necessarily my government, what is the term for that?  Patriot?  Porcupine?

I guess it depends on what you mean by 'love'.  If you love someone with a bomb, I think the term is 'bomber'.  Or maybe 'terrorist', depending on what your ideology is.  If you love your country by bombing someone else's country, the term is 'bloody-handed murdering war monger bastard'.  And if you bomb someone in the a-hole, there's probably a fetish site for that somewhere on the Internet.

Mr O... what about American Terrorists ala Tim McVeigh?  Who does the US get to bomb?

Wow.  I had no idea people would get so worked up over this.  Ear is going bananas over my statements.  Relax, man.  No need for the homo-erotic jokes.  I have my opinions, and everyone else has theirs.  I truly am sorry if you get upset that my views differ from yours, but you haven't said anything to change my mind.  And I'm doing my best to keep an open mind despite your juvenile, sarcastic tone.

Honestly, can we PLEASE discuss issues here without namecalling and belittling?  This is freaking ridiculous...

No.

At least, not while the issue we're discussing involves you being in favor of bombing innocent people whose only crime is not being Americans.

Tom Sawyer

I thought the fetish site reference was funny. ;D

Tom Lehrer: 'Whose Next'  1960 something

First we got the bomb, and that was good,
'cause we love peace and motherhood.
Then russia got the bomb, but that's okay,
'cause the balance of power's maintained that way.
Who's next?

France got the bomb, but don't you grieve,
'cause they're on our side (i believe).
China got the bomb, but have no fears,
They can't wipe us out for at least five years.
Who's next?

Then indonesia claimed that they
Were gonna get one any day.
South africa wants two, that's right:
One for the black and one for the white.
Who's next?

Egypt's gonna get one too,
Just to use on you know who.
So israel's getting tense.
Wants one in self defense.
"the lord's our shepherd," says the psalm,
But just in case, we better get a bomb.
Who's next?

Luxembourg is next to go,
And (who knows?) maybe monaco.
We'll try to stay serene and calm
When alabama gets the bomb.
Who's next?
Who's next?
Who's next?
Who's next?

EDIT:  Ok, now I've vented.  Hear and now I promise to never again stoop to name-calling and character assassination of fellow PORCs.  I get very frustrated when people skirt the discussion to level attacks at others and I myself was just guilty of doing that.

If we can't talk to each other and discuss issues in a rational manner (considering there are only a handful of issues we disagree on) then we are in for some trouble considering that 98% of voters don't think Libertarians are worth putting into office.

Ear, consider this my apology.  I hold no animosity toward you...

Tom Sawyer

Damn I wished I had seen your vent...  ;)

Karma to you for being a bigger man than Objectivist who seems to be a troll intent on inflaming emotions and hate.

Quantrill, all mocking aside, I am far more offended by your readiness to support the mass murder of innocent civilians in the name of punishing criminals than I am by any personal attack you might make against my own humble self.  Anyone who calls himself a Libertarian needs to have a very thick skin.

Your argument fell apart when tested by the tactic known as reductio ad absurdum, and you should know that I take great delight in shining a big bright light on that kind of egregious bozosity.  That said, no hard feelings... but I hope you learned something from the many replies you got from people pointing out the unacceptability of your stance on warmongering.

Anarchism is the most irrational, anti-intelectual notion ever spun by the concret-bound, context-dropping, whim-worshipping fringe of the collectivist movement, where it properly belongs.

Objectivist,

I appreciate your attending this forum.  On the issue of self-defense via the American government's war in Iraq or elsewhere over the years, I can't see the connection between defending us against "terrorism" and this war.  Also, I want to point out, as a card-carrying former Student of Objectivism (I never graduated), that objective reality would argue against the official story of 911.

Also, I want to point out the typos in your signature that someone else mentioned.  I see "intelectual" and "concret-bound" as misspelled, but perhaps you are making a point with that.  I don't think those spelllings were in the Rand original.

Best wishes for continued dialog on the issues.

Although Thomas Aquinas was a theist, I observe his historical importance in reviving Aristotle. Although Libertarians are 90% wrong, they're 10% right, and that's more than any other political group today. The fight is not in politics - it is in philosophy. That's why I am openeing a private school, not running for office. -Brandon Cropper
