Seabrook Nuclear Plant = Nonexistent!

Even though my friend works at the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant, such a power plant apparently does not exist according to the amazing fact-checking socialist Howard Zinn in his world-famous anti-capitalist manifesto, "People's History of the United States."

"In Seabrook, New Hampshire, there were years of persistent protest against a nuclear power plant which residents considered a danger to themselves and their families. Between 1977 and 1989, over 3,500 people were arrested in these protests. Ultimately, the plant, plagued by financial problems and opposition, had to shut down" (Zinn, 2003, p. 613).

(Zinn, Howard, People's History of the United States, 2003)

In reality, one of the two power units at the station were canceled for some reason, but the plant was not shut down. Construction of the plant was completed and it has been operating for quite a while now.

Please correct me if I'm wrong about this.  ???

They canceled the 2nd reactor when the costs for the first one went sky high. (Almost 5 times estimates.) Oh the stories I could tell you about Seabrook Station.  ::)

3500 non-violent civil disobeyers...these guys should be heroes to the NVCD crowd.

The author has probably confused Seabrook with Shoreham, a nuclear power plant on Long Island, New York, which was built during that timeframe, but the plug pulled before it generated a single watt.

Yeah us rate payers got screwed for years to come on that one.

You can thank the socialist anti-nuclear wackos for that one. Though they did make one good point: How in the hell do you evacuate Long Island?

After completing this book, I've concluded a few things about socialism:

1. The foundation of all socialist support is one simple human feeling: irresponsible coveting.

2. Socialists believe ideally in voluntary cooperation and nonviolent protests as methods toward pure liberty.

3. Socialists believe capitalism will naturally and peacefully cease to exist in the absence of a monopoly of force that enforces property rights, no force will be necessary to eliminate capitalism, and no bureaucracy whatsoever will be necessary to enforce equality.

4. The vast majority of socialists, including Zinn, are hypocrites exploiting the ingrained human feeling of envy, through the propaganda thereof, toward ends and through means that violate their own ideals. Successful socialist propagandists have no choice but to appeal to government-theft-funded social programs because of the feeling of irresponsible coveting at the foundation of all socialist support. This hypocrisy is glaringly obvious to any informed, objective reader.

That sounds like what I understood socialists to believe -- completely logically inconsistent and morally indefensible.
