I am waiting for a technician to go out and do something to the hardware at the data center. For whatever reason, this is taking an unusually long amount of time. I requested the service at 7:30 this morning. They're already going to lose my business; the question now is whether I publicly shame them when I leave.

OK, after a day and a half of hell the system is back up and running. All but one of you have service restored (reboot your box if you don't have service). Now comes the hard part of moving it to somewhere more reliable with on-site people who have a clue.

If you're thinking about signing up for this service, please contact me prior to February 29. I will not be accepting orders for new service after that date and into the indefinite future.

Here's a special message for those of you who are currently using this service.

As stated above the service is offered free; however, it costs a significant amount of money to run, (currently around $300 each month) and thus I have to rely on voluntary contributions from subscribers.

I have not received any such contributions in several months.

If you are a subscriber and you wish to see this service continue, please contribute in proportion to the value you feel you have received from the service. (Ian, you are exempt from this.) You can do so via PayPal or in person at PorcFest.

You can also contribute if you enjoy the Porc-411 service, which is also on this platform, and wish to see it continued.

Oh, as a postscript. Those of you who want to set up new service, AND will be at PorcFest, can sign up now and pick up your equipment at PorcFest. If you want to do this, I need to hear from you by Friday, May 30. Thanks!

I'll consider any alternative you might want to throw out. But as much as "PayPal sucks," all the alternatives I've been presented recently are worse.
