MANCHESTER ? A retired fire captain was arrested early yesterday at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport after an argument with federal security agents, police said.

Roger Paradis, 70, of 33 Karin St. was pepper-sprayed after he allegedly resisted arrest about 12:20 a.m., said Lt. Scott Saunders of Londonderry police.

Officers spoke with Paradis after he allegedly acted suspiciously while standing near the secure area of the Transportation Security Administration checkpoint, Saunders said.

Paradis was believed to be intoxicated, Saunders said, and asked odd questions and twice walked away from officers who approached him.

He did not have a ticket to fly, but was believed to be waiting for someone to arrive.

Paradis was charged with disorderly conduct, along with resisting arrest.

He was released on his own recognizance.

Reached at home last night, Paradis declined to discuss the arrest.

"I'm 70 years old. I'm retired," said Paradis, who is the husband of former school board member Sandra Dubisz-Paradis.

"I've never been arrested at all in my life. I'm so ashamed."

Paradis retired in 1990 from the Manchester fire department. When he left, he served as captain and chief executive officer of Station 3 on Harvey Road.

I think it is both in Manchester and Londonderry.

I was arrested by Rockingham County deputies ... which is Londonderry. The terminal must be in Londonderry.

Sigh.

Why did he not speak out against them? He did not hurt anyone.  :(

slim

It does not matter if they are 7 or 70 the cops don't care they are just mindless automatons.

If you ask most cops why they enforce bad laws they will most likely say "I am just doing my job"

Pepper spray?

What's he complaining about? I put that stuff on my tacos, man.  :pissedoff:

This guy is one of the things wrong with this country: why is he "ashamed" of being brutalized by bullies with badges and being arrested for something that shouldn't be criminal (asking strange questions and walking away from the bullies)?

I think you are right. He being a retired fire chief probably impacts the way he sees authority.
