My husband and I fought the electronic age.  We didn't get a cell phone or internet service until four years ago when our son's travel team soccer coach told us we had to because that's the only way they communicated with parents (who lived in different communities throughout the state).

Speaking of cell phones...when I was campaigning at a polling place last November, I was hanging out with a sheriff and we got talking about freedom/liberty/big brother/big government/invasion of privacy/etc.  Anyway, he told me that he doesn't own or personally use a cell phone or computer/internet or speedpass because he doesn't want "big brother" to know what he's saying/doing and where he is.  Shocked me....here he is a sheriff and he's expressing to me his worries about government infiltrating our personal lives.

The sheriff doesn't want big brother to know he's out punching pot smoking teenagers in the kidneys.

Actually, I think the sheriff might be out smoking WITH the teenagers!  We had a lot of time to talk & I asked his opinion about legalizing pot.  He said ABSOLUTELY pot should be legalized, and that many of his fellow law enforcement officers agree.  I asked him what he thought the percentage of the adult population is that smokes pot...he guessed that 75% of the NH population does.  So, why the hell is it illegal?  He said the babyboomers that are now in respectable jobs don't dare to openly join the legalize pot bandwagon...but that if was put to a vote, then they could support it by going into the voting booth and checking the appropriate box.

I go camping in a part of Missouri that doesnt have cellphone service.

I do the same thing not too far from Missouri, in north-central Arkansas. I love cutting the cords and getting away. But when I go back to real life, I want to be able to stay in touch. And since Lancaster is where we hope to move, the communications options are important to me.

And if Cingular will just expand their service, I'll be able to get one of these;D
