When Microsoft introduces its long-awaited Windows Vista operating system this month, it will have an unlikely partner to thank for making its flagship product safe and secure for millions of computer users across the world: the National Security Agency.

Linux 2.6's security model (SELinux) was written by the NSA, too!

True. But unlike Microsoft, you can actually look at SELinux and see whether NSA tried to slip in any nasty stuff -- and as far as anyone can tell, they haven't.

You also don't have to use SELinux; you can turn it off.

Oh, did I forget to mention, NSA provided help for Mac OS X, too!

I've done some sorting through what help was provided when and what some of the risks might be.

Ironically enough it might even be worth running SELinux kernel one whatever distro you choose, if you choose to switch.

Personally I use debian and have a truecrypt encrypted partition (AES/Blowfish I think) of 17GB and another of AES/SomthingElse ... I use one for TV rips and one for other stuff.
