Why don't we invade every country in the world that does bad things?

All this talk of how bad Iraq was are just rationalizations for "staying the course". We didn't seem to care about them torturing their people when we had Saddam on our side. The same nonsense happens over and over again. It all goes back to trying to run the world...

We supported the Shah of Iran, pissing off their people and that lead to Iran having a revolution where they lost ground to the zealots. We end up creating the opposite of our intended goals.

Every Time!

There's apparently another kind of chickenhawk:

Quote
Chickenhawk n. A person enthusiastic about war, provided someone else fights it; particularly when that enthusiasm is undimmed by personal experience with war; most emphatically when that lack of experience came in spite of ample opportunity in that person's youth.

And here's one of their examples:

Quote

Name: George W. Bush (R-TX)
Born: 1946
Employer: The U.S. Taxpayer
Conflict Avoided: Vietnam
Notes: You know when a guy walks away from a National Guard obligation during wartime and gets away with it, he must come from "a good family." Not that his daddy had anything to do with his getting a Guard slot in the first place - oh, no ...

So this entire thread is what? Let's see who can best appeal to emotion and visual repuslion in the place of reason?

To have a reasoned discussion of something like torture or war, we have to know what the costs and benefits are.  The costs include doing repulsive things to human beings, and understanding that is SO essential to having a rational discussion about torture or war.

Eh, I can buy that. I just didn't get that meaning from the OP and subsequent posts.

This thread was originally part of a thread on the liberty forum. I split it off in order to avoid further hijacking of the thread.

i can and will say that i stumbled upon those gross pictures, I have a thing against horrific pictures, including movies with lots of blood. I have problems with trying to stop replaying what i see, and i didnt expect to see that pic of that guys brain.  I have to sensor myself from those things, due to past experiences, post traumatic stress, but then again, i have to expose myself a little bit to try to get over my past.  Quickly, domestic abuse that ended up with my X fiance murdering my girlfriend instead of me, in a horrific manner..   I agree, we dont need to be posting any pictures where I will wander onto, and then after seeing nasty pics, worry if i am going to spend weeks dreaming of that being my body hanging, or my brains busted out..  I should have guessed by the caption, but honestly, i didnt really read or recognize that it was going to be bad images my fault. Im sure there are people out there, who like me, agree that there shouldnt be too many picures posted like that, or a contest as to who can post the worse. I like reading what everyone posts in responses, so, for now, ill just close my eyes, and hope there is braille on my monitor!  Im sure there is others out there, who cant watch SAW, or Texas chainsaw or bullshit like that.    Im just trying to say, guys, watch the horrific pics..  or put up a subject, like BETH DONT LOOK!  that works too!  But keep the chicken hawk cartoons!  In my mind this is the last place for horrific pictures.   Beth

Beth221: you're the opposite of me - i can look at anything, and I've seen just about probably more than you could imagine... it's fun to see i think, but i know a lot of people like you who dont like gore etc.

Beth221

dont get me wrong, I use to love it, its just too real for me now,  i can look at a picture, and imagine that being me.  its stupid, im damaged, i try to expose myself to crap, but its not working...  time will tell.  im a little bananas these days i guess!

I see... I've never had the problem of connecting things I see to myself... alot of times someone says something gross and someone replies "oh bad image" or "bad visual" ... maybe they picture it happening to themselves. i don't have an imagination

Beth221

well its past history that makes me put myself in the picture, i didnt do it before...  my mind craves the details of what happened, and do my brain takes things from life to imagine all the details..  Like i can imagine what happened, many different ways, but did i actually see it?  Nope, but i can replay what happened.  i have too vivid of an imagination...  any suggestions to stop imagining?  So, for now, i just censor what i see, ignore it, and go to a happy place, like here, to escape from horrific pictures.....until last night!!!!  AHHH, im kidding..  i just try not to look..... ::)

I'm surprised no one has posted the pictures of all the dead kids with heads blown apart, bodies mutilated by explosives or experimental microwave weapons (those weapons have a nice body shrinking effect).  I'd post em, but it's too gross for me as well.  I don't want to see those pictures again.

War is peace ;)

It's just peculiar how we choose our intervention targets.  There are brutal dictators everywhere.  10s of 1000s used to die daily in Africa.  US and the UN didn't care.  I guess Africa just didn't have that appeal for a military outpost, the need for a world bank, and the need to be part of a global empire.  Too bad for those millions of people.  We weren't able to shove our "democracy" down their throats by the barrel of a gun.

Oh no, don't worry.  We're an equal opportunity empire.

Angola. Egypt. Zaire. Algeria. Ghana. Seychelles. Chad. Diego Garcia. Libya. Somalia.  All African nations that have been brutalized by the US government.
