To tie it in with the self sufficiency threads which I was posting in recently, here are two interesting movies:

OFF THE GRID: Life On The Mesa - Trailer

I know most people have heard of that one.  The documentary is available on DVD now, and it looks quite interesting.  I've been told by a guy who lives in New Mexico that though the film intentionally picks out some of the loony toon nutbars to make for a good movie, and that most of the people who are involved with these communities are very normal... he gave the movie two thumbs up anyway, and said that it is very much how it really is out there.

You can watch the full thing now on youtube. It's about an hour and 15 minutes long.

Off The Grid

Tom Sawyer

The Book Thief

Powerful film of a girl's view of Nazi Germany...
The parallels we are experiencing are unsettling.

Tom Sawyer

#139
Kill the Messenger
The story of reporter Gary Webb telling the truth about gooberment involvement in the cocaine trade and the subsequent fallout that led to him losing everything, including his life.

I would say one of the most powerful films to "crack" open people's minds to how corrupt the gooberment is.
Worse still is the way Gary Webb was marginalized and how the CIA and the mainstream big media turned the story to be about him and claims he never made.

I saw that you SumBitch......?.

Apparently Brewster's Millions is about to get a remake. Has it been mentioned yet? The "Vote for None of the Above" campaign alone makes it noteworthy.

If folks watch this, I would really love to discuss its themes. I don't want to spoil it. It doesn't get into governments specifically, but I feel like it addresses the human failings and motivations that underlie government, religion, and other tactics for controlling and exploiting people.
