General 'attitude' of NH's population toward new residents that are GLBT...

Basically, I'm concerned that if and when I do move to NH that I'll have the same 'static' that I have here in Kansas with regards to my status as being transgendered and bisexual. So I just want a heads up on what I should know and what I should not do while as a n00b in NH.

Also, I need to know of any decent universities for graduate and post-graduate studies, considering it looks like my degree path will require it. I would prefer a private college or university, but a state college would be acceptable if the rate is sufficient that I don't require loans from the government to get in further debt with (Meaning flexible pay plans for either private or state colleges/universities).

I'm probably not very sensitive to the "static" you mention, but I haven't really heard anything overly positive or negative my few months here.

I think that much of the level of acceptance for who you are largely depends on where you decide to set down in New Hampshire.  I hope that other people can speak to this...

I would think (but it's only a guess) that anyplace that's sufficiently urbanized and/or within a certain radius of a university would be less interested in your personal details and/or more accepting of you.

But, like I said, I'm probably not very sensitive to these things.  I hope somebody can address your concerns (and they may well do so via PM... heh).

I wish you the best of luck!

Dartmouth is a good school.

I guess it depends on what you want your degrees in.

Having lived in CA for 10 years... I guess I am immune to some things.

How would people know you were bi or transgendered?  The small towns might have 'talk' about a strange looking person (gay, straight or otherwise) and probably more accepted in bigger towns.

That is just a guess on my part.

My main research is into Non-Turing AI theory with applications into protein folding as substrate to represent their actions. Yes, it's a bit esoteric, but if I can make it practical, it would fly circles around anything built today.

Salem area for the shot down I-93 (not a fun road durring commuter traffic) as well to get to Cambridge.  You can do it down Route 3 from Nashua, but Route 3 stops being a highway when you hit 128 (I-95), you could pop over to route 2 to continue to Cambridge, but there is no escaping some un-fun traffic (depending on time of day again).  Luckily, there's a lot of routes to get to where you're going if it were MIT.

UNH has a pretty good graduate school in bio-engineering for a state school but obviously Dartmouth would be better

"what is glbt?
..... maybe I don't want to know."

I bet I would not be the only person in NH to say that.

Is it possible to subscribe to than two of the categories in the acronym?  I somehow think not.

Um, that's if you believe gender is sexuality, which it's not. It's just that the T gets tagged on to be 'inclusive.' So I can be transgendered and bisexual at the same time since transgenderedness is not in the category labeled sexuality.

Bah!

That should have read:

"Is it possible to subscribe to more than two of the categories in the acronym?  I somehow think not."

I wasn't questioning your self-identification, I was uselessly pontificating on the categories in the term.

I would say that NH is more MYOB than KS. Strangers are less likely to be nice right away, but also less likely to care about any "differences." I think there is some rejection of folks that stand out, but that extends first to politicians and massholes.
