Mark Cuban - libertarian billionaire

I was just on another message board, and some people were talking about a billionaire called Mark Cuban. I didn't know who it was, so I checked Wikipedia. He apparently made his billions by starting broadcast.com and selling it to Yahoo, right before the dotcom crash, and he also was a co-founder of HD-Net and owns a majority share of the NBA Dallas Mavericks.

Then when I got to the end of his page, it says that he's a follower of objectivism, and his political views lean towards libertarianism.

So I just thought some people might find this interesting, that there are in fact rich libertarians out there. Also, I wonder if he knows about the FSP and the NH freedom movement? Maybe he'd be interested in doing something with us some time?

I like him. I sometimes visit his website.
He is crazy ... but is the ultimate fan that bought a team.

If he's so libertarian, where's all the donations? He could shoulder the movement on his back.

Russell Kanning

some libertarians don't donate .... or they don't care about "political" type stuff. He could give money ... but just to poor people who need it ... not libertarian parties or thinktanks. :)

He likes things like copyrights ... that doesn't make sense to me.

He spends all his "authority defying" funds in fines for complaining about NBA officials.  8)

We could really use his money though. Not that I own him or anything. But most libertarians give when they can see that they will affect a change. Does he even pay attention to the FSP?

Your remarks strike me as being very "big L."

As far as Cuban goes, any body with his kind of money has already struck a deal with satanic government. :(

Thus, not much of a libertarian. Just another Kurt Russell, Clint Eastwood, or Drew Carey. No principles...

It's pretty impossible to make a billion dollars without a government bureaucrat noticing the fact, and coming after you at gunpoint to obtain "your fair share."

Quantrill

I'd like for Mark to give me and any other enterprising PORCs a loan, with a fair interest rate.  I don't want a donation, but he could help people set up Apartment complexes (rooms for PORCs), help fund various companies (income for PORCs) and maybe contribute toward some advertising...

It would be nice if Cuban gave money to the CATO Institute or something else of libertarian leaning. I've never even heard of him ever donating shit to any lib cause.

Do you send out press releases when you decide who you're going to give your money to? I don't.

No, but a billionaire would normally give to many orgs that fit their concepts. It's not much of a stretch to think that this Cuban guy would donate to his favorite causes. If nothing else, give $50-60K to the LP. I respect his personal sovereignty, but show your colors.

What's with all this sniveling about how somebody else should spend his money? And who's to say how he should spend it, except him?

"It would be nice if..." sounds a whole lot like the social pressure that is used to shake down rich people every day.

Lots of libertarians don't donate to the party or causes. They're too busy living their lives to be involved in "causes" or activism.
