Talking Urinal Cakes Offer Drinking And Driving Advice
DWI Message Played During Men's Last Pit Stop Before Driving

POSTED: 2:30 pm MST February 10, 2007
UPDATED: 2:41 pm MST February 10, 2007
SANTA FE -- New Mexico has taken its fight against drunken driving to men's restrooms around the state.

The state has ordered 500 talking urinal cakes that will deliver a recorded anti-DWI message to bar and restaurant patrons who make one last pit stop before getting behind the wheel.

The top of the devices feature the state DWI slogan -- "You drink, you drive, you lose."

Some Albuquerque bars installed the devices this week.

And the state Transportation Department plans to distribute them to Santa Fe bars and restaurants as well as establishments in Farmington, Gallup and Las Cruces.

The state spent $21 for each talking urinal cake for the pilot program but will ask bars and restaurants to pay for future orders if the idea catches on.

The cakes have enough battery power to last about three months.

Oh. My.

I would actually consider driving to New Mexico, and with my very own glove laden hand, dig one of these out of a urinal, take it home, rerecord the message and put it back in the urinal.  It's a urinal puck.  That talks. To people who have been drinking.  I mean, how many different ways can you have fun with this?

I want to know more about how this contraption works. What I'm picturing is a round thing with a built in speaker, where you activate the recorded message by peeing on it.

Imagine a really big, really drunk guy at the urinal next to you says, "What did You say to me?"

It just occurred all of the things I wouldn't know if I didn't read this forum..........and how happier I might be

You don't have to go to New Mexico. They've already got them down in Nassau County, Long Island. They're made by Wizmark, from whom I presume you could buy them.

Wizmark.  Now that has to top my list of all time great company names.

You know, I have enough problems squeezing a drop when there are men to each side of me.  I'm just not sure I could handle something flashing lights at me while hawking the latest iPod.  And who will file the first lawsuit because they had a seizure while standing at the john?

If they really wanted to help the F*#cking thing would tell you
your blood alcohol level.

Actually I've seen breathalyzer machines in bars. You feed in $2, take a straw off the top, and breathe into the thing. It then tells you you're too damn drunk to drive and better call a cab.

I could imagine somebody getting pissed off at one of these things and covering it with something almost entirely unlike urine.
