Rents are much higher in LA and SF ..... but they have lower property taxes.

That is not necessarily true.

3 bedroom house in suburbs of SF  $600K  Property tax (controlled by state) ~$6500 plus income tax plus general sales tax
3 bedroom house in NH  $250K  Property tax $4000 - $6000 (depending on town)
But the guy asked about property taxes .... and I wanted to show that is not the only factor. :)
I used to pay very little in property taxes in CA, but then I paid much more for income taxes and such ... until I stopped sending in forms. :)
