Attended a debate between Ron Paul and Ralph Nader a couple of years ago  Although it seems like a simple private property area, Nader pointed out that when GM plants mature the seeds and spores  travel beyond the control of those that created them and can have an effect on farmers downwind.

The fact that GM crops take over non-GM crops is just one of the problems. Another is that in many cases with GM crops the seed is neutral so you have to buy new seed every year. The jury is still out on health risks. I don't buy food in a box, and I don't accept foods from any company with the word science appearing in the name.

By the time the detrimental health effect are known, all we will have is GM crops. They're illegal in the EU but that doesn't stop the US government from trying to sneak them over. They (USGOV) has been busted a couple of times already trying to sneak them in.

It's not the seeds or spores that are the most troublesome, but the pollen (which is a sort of spore, true) from the plants in question--germination is a wildcard.

And it's not just downwind you have to worry about.  Plenty of animals and insects also carry pollen.  The methods of pollination are usually species-specific.

I'll be up front that I don't have an easy answer to that.

I will say that it then behooves the proponents of such crops to find ways to minimize propagation, perhaps by making the plants sterile in some way.  The potential benefits of using these kinds of crops are far too great to ignore.

I mean, like, the very real benefit of feeding thousands if not millions of people, as opposed to "social programs" which promise such benefits but destroy people in the process.

AND it was the Archer Daniels Midland GM corn that was responsible for the Monarch Butterfly kill a few years ago. I'll shaddup now.  :-X

I can't wait until my food is the show. I can just imagine it now all the little grains of rice put on a circus act just before you eat them.  >:D
If the GM food saves one person then it would be worth it but I do not think it should be forced on anyone. If you have concerns about GM food take a look at Penn & Teller's Bull Shit on the subject.

ADM = one of the WORST globalist corporations, if not THE worst.

Most agribiotech companies make their stuff sterile so that farmers can't get the seeds without buying them from the company.

What does that mean, to be a "globalist corporation"?

Pssh, we don't grow pot in Kansas. It grows itself. We just watch it sprout into 20ft marijuana trees while waiting for the DEA to send out agents to spray it...can't touch it ourselves. That's illegal.

The DEA actually comes out and sprays the Mob's pot plants?!

Assuming you're not being sarcastic (it's hard to tell on the internet), I'm pretty sure hemp grows as a weed in that part of the country.
