Us married guys enjoy razzing all the single libertarian geeks that are chickless. This never gets old. :)
My favorite is when single 25 year old males give out relationship and child rearing advice.

I have the same thought about priests.

My favorite is when married people try to tell single men where to meet single women. :)

I try not to give out relationship advice (I am in a long-term relationship, though), but I might not be as careful with child-rearing advice.  I don't know--I can't remember.

Maybe when I realize that I simply do not know what I am talking about is when I shut up.  :)

But... I do tend to think that teachers that don't have their own children sort of fall into the same category.  But I dunno--I haven't met that many teachers.

What's your liberty issue? Is it... women?

BAHAHAHAHA!

Anyways, rainey, has this technique worked at all for your son? Maybe I need to be more pathetic...

No it hasn't worked for him so far but if it does I'll let you know. :)

sigh, I blame Ian and Mark for my predicament. Before I saw the light of freedom listening to their show, I did alright with the ladies. But now I get upset whenever a girl I meet mentions socialized healthcare or, on the other end of the spectrum, "supporting our troops" and they get much more upset when I suggest it's morally wrong to force me to pay taxes.

d_goddard

That probably means you should let her talk more.
Trust me, this is a rule of thumb that will NEVER steer you wrong :)

Start out slow and if they're worth it (read: coughintelligentcough) they'll slowly come around to your side. But you have to start S-L-O-W.

Don't just go from socialized healthcare to TAXATION IS THEFT!!!11!

:)

Again, I blame Ian for the militancy he's imbued in me about freedom issues. I should tone it down and try to introduce them slowly to liberty

Let me expound on that by my personal experience.  :)

I met Mary when I was on a date with someone else. A group of mutual friends were getting together at a trendy club, and Mary showed up alone. She wasn't in touch with the nature of the venue, so she came straight from work in a t-shirt and Daisy Dukes; despite that, she fit right in. When we were introduced, it wasn't love at first sight, but "like at at first sight". "Intrigue" came soon after.

She had me at "HA!" the first time she threw her head back to laugh. The burst of intelligent wit was unmistakable, and the brilliant smile captured my heart.

We retired with our group to a different club, and somewhere along the way I misplaced my date. Mary and I have been together ever since, and she continues to *wow* me with that dazzling laugh.  ;D

Anyhoo... somewhere along about the time we were either preparing for marriage, getting married, or being newly married (all within 7 months of the first time we laid eyes on one another), the topic of politics came up. Mary insisted that she was a Democrat. No particular reason, other than family tradition; she "knew" that Democrats were "for the little people". I bit my tongue, because I'd already seen her in action as a small-business entrepreneur and a single mother whose goal was to avoid and eschew government assistance (a goal which she achieved remarkably well).

She had largely ignored politics (and still does). Over time, as we discussed issues instead of parties, she discovered that she was most closely aligned with the libertarians. And truth be told, she's more an-cap than me, mostly because she simply doesn't worry about such labels. She's the one driving without a license. She's the one venturing into a new business, where she and her partners will do everything possible to avoid paying any taxes.

All of this is the natural outcome of picking a lady based on her intelligence and honesty.

She had me at "HA!"  :)

Yeah, you wouldn't want to consult someone who's been successful :P

Rather, you should thank them. Better to know now and choose a partner accordingly than awaken one day with someone incompatible philosophically.

Poor Ian. He's just not catching much of a break!

As people like to say, most people are partially libertarian. Everyone, when asked, would agree that they own themselves (or god does), not the government. It's just the details and the philosophical depth they have to get used to. While I wouldn't call any of my good friends from high school libertarian, none of them are pro-big government either and are very receptive and concerned when I tell them about what's going on. They're just not very political, so they don't care. But I managed to convince one to look close at Ron Paul for 2008 and it was very easy.
They're all female, btw, and all lean libertarian, even though they don't care, but are they as extreme as me or half the people on this board? Definitely not.

So I wouldn't look for a libertarian woman from the onset. We're scarce enough as it is and there is far too much competition from libertarian men ;) Broaden your pool and look for one who whines and bitches about the governemnt taking money out of her paystub. :)
