Quote from: money dollars on March 07, 2007, 11:34 AM NHFTI will hook you up with a couple if you want.
I think those look good. Are you offering free plates? I could use 1 or 2.

Russell Kanning

Last night when we started up our car our friend noticed that one of our headlights was out. Today we got a bulb and replaced it. Tonight we left Panera again after hanging out with new and old friends, but our lights worked. I drove home as usual. That was simple.

The funny thing that happened in between was that the police state stepped in and hassled us for an hour. They might even hassle us in the future. I can think of no justification for their behavior.

Could you give me an honest assessment of how much of a PITA it is to just go paperless?  How much extra hassle is it, and what can they really DO about it?
I am not totally paperless. One of our cars is still registered.

I haven't had a license for a while. My old California license was suspended (I am a "deadbeat dad") a few years ago and I have not tried to get one since.

Positives:
I have not waited in any dmv lines.
I don't have to keep government paperwork.
I am stickin it to the man.
I have not paid any fees.

Negatives:
Trouble at all the places that want government ID
I was just detained for almost an hour.
They may drag me into court and want me to pay them fines.
They may put me in jail for not paying fines.

So far I have saved time and money.

Cool. Me too. I even have my own picture and stats on the Illinois deadbeat dad website. Since I can't afford my own website I thought I would print the url on my business cards.  ;D

After the National ID Act passed, I vowed I would never get another one. And I have not. I keep the old expired ID around, though, because it's useful for seeing how much people who ask for ID actually pay attention to them. (Little to none.)

Case in point. These morons asked for "$25.00 and your ID" and barely glanced at it. They didn't even put my name on the ticket, just the initials.

I like the question(!) on the receipt there.

If you've ever driven to or from Boston, the statement is quite compelling. People will pay -- and show ID -- for someone to haul them to and from Logan for $17 bucks each way.

Yeah, I haven't driven to or from Boston... I wonder how it compares to driving in Manhattan...?

If it was comparable, then if I had a full-sized van and was located closer to Manchester... I might consider doing it for $15/person as long as I could drum up enough business to be on the road almost constantly with an average of 3-4 people per leg.

Of course, I'd probably have to register with some livery agency somewhere so I could park near the terminal for discharging and picking up passengers.  As distasteful as that would be, I wouldn't want to be in the position of screwing over my customers by not being available.

All that I would need to do then would be to find a way to get over the drowsy spells I get after driving for 15-20 minutes.  ;)

error

Drowsy spells? I can drive for 24 hours straight, across the wide plains and nothingness of places like Nebraska and Kansas! :)

Yes, free. I can give you two. They still need a little square orange sticker  ;).  I have some stuff I have to get to Ian, so maybe whenever I do that I will get them to Keene.

I'm glad I didn't have to ask  :)

Most of Manhattan is laid out in some kind of grid.  None of Boston is. Offer transportation to the nearest T stop and avoid driving in the city.  Even from as far away as Keene, you can get on transit to downtown Boston in a little over an hour.

Russ, I totally, TOTALLY want a pic of the LINUX plate on the back of your vehicle.

And lots of crazy one way streets, and cars double parked, and insane prices if you pay for parking.

When I lived in Boston I didn't have a car.
