I don't hate tradition.

I hate blind adherence to tradition for its own sake.

Right again.  We could do this all day, except I have to go to work and you probably have to go to bed ;D

Whenever I go to Concord I get disgusted by all the government buildings there.
Oh for heavens' sake. What do you think all those university buildings are in Keene, private?

They are at least partially competitive.  Plus there aren't huge signs out on the side of the road like in Concord:  "GOVERNMENT METROPLEX SUPERCENTER" or whatever that gianormous complex is across from the huge National Guard building in Concord.
no is says "keene STATE college"   ;)

The difference is ... at the college .... the main activity is drinking

...ok ...never mind ... there is no difference.

Keene is only a problem for going other places if you think you have to fly out of Boston. It's a nicer drive to Hartford-Springfield, which has flights to most everywhere else in the US.

And you can fly Southwest into Hartford, which you cannot do into Boston.

I haven't flown for a couple years, but you used to be able to fly into Manch via southwest as well.

I haven't heard any movers grumbling very much about where they've moved. It's an important decision, but don't sweat it too much. you'd probably be happy with Keene, Concord, or Manch.

Southwest Airlines dominates the manchester airport. Southwest owns the northeast.

I am moving to New Hampshire, YEAH!!!! After attending the Liberty Forum last month and not knowing much about FSP I was so inspired by my experience there and the people I met that I came home and signed the statement of intent, I am 7596 FSP. Originally I was going to give myself a little over a year to make my move. However, as each day goes by I feel the need to make things happen now. Since I've spent very little time in New Hampshire I would like to get your opinions and feelings on the different cities and towns I could choose to live in.  I know everyone is different but if you could share with me your experiences it would be helpful in narrowing it down. Which places offer more jobs, have lower rents, what is the difference between Concord and Keene? If one didn't have a car is there public transportation available everywhere including outside of the cities? Thanks in advance.  :)

Jaffrey!

It will really make you feel good about yourself.

There's no public transportation in Jaffrey.

If public transportation is important to you, I suggest either Manchester, Concord, Keene or the Lebanon area. Which one depends largely on whether you want quick access via public transportation to Boston. From here in Manchester, there are several buses every day to Boston, it's about an hour trip, and costs about $11 each way. $13.50 from Concord. It'll run you a lot more from Lebanon or from Keene. Though from Keene it's about as easy to get to NYC as Boston.

The largest shopping mall in the state is in Manchester. It's very easily accessible via the city bus, with three buses an hour all day.

I'm in Manchester, too. ;)

You know how funny that sounds? Jaffrey is this cute little New England town. I can't picture it with bus stops. :)
It is overpriced though.

Thanks for all the info it is very helpful. Manchester is ahead of the pack right now!  :D

Now that I have had a chance to tour keene, i like it better than before.  I live in Manch, and like the larger cities.  Downtown and north of downtown keene remind me of some of ohio's larger suburbs, I think I can live with that.
I do not like much gov't in a relitively small area.  Which is why I would never choose concord.  Unfortunately as it has been pointed out, Keene has their own gov't institutions, and is the cheshire county seat.  Manch relative to its size, does not appear to be too bad.
The biggest advantage keene has, that manch does not have, is the 'out of the system' activism, which i am interested in.  Otherwise manch would be my home, permanently.

Yet....maybe you can attract others to Manch to do that.  (Not trying to tell you want to do)
It is still earlier in the move cycle.. more and more people are coming (1000 in the next 2 years)

It sounds like you've been up there for the Liberty Forum if not other events. I'm visiting NH for the first time for the Porcfest and I went ahead and bought the pass for all the bus trips. I was planning on driving around the state in a rental car but a bus tour is probably better because they know where to go. Are you going to Porcfest? If you haven't gotten a good tour yet, maybe that would be a good opportunity to get a good tour during nice weather before you decide.
