My cat had 5 adorable kittens 3 weeks ago. I figure I need to start finding homes for them!

I will take individual pictures of them when my battery has re-charged. In the meantime, this is a picture of them when they were a day old.

They will be social cats....as all of my cats are very social creatures. They've been ahndles from day one.

Alice needs a little sibling.  Take her mind off of Pat.

Just remember that it's illegal to sell kittens in New Hampshire without a license.  :P

Then again, this could make for an act of civil disobedience....  >:D

Nope.  In fact, there was a bill this session to make the law even stricter so that a New Hampshire resident wouldn't be allowed to sell puppies or kittens to an out-of-state resident either, which seems both unenforceable and a violation of states' rights. I had to review it for the NHLA (it fell under Environment and Agriculture, or as I prefer to call it, the "Hoof and Mouth" Committee).

Though I'm not sure someone giving away extra kittens would fall under the definition of "engage in the business of" for the purposes of this law.  Opinion Mr. President?

437:1 License Required. ? No person, firm, corporation or other entity shall engage in the business of selling or the business of placing or giving away, with or without a fee or donation required, to the public, live animals or birds customarily used as household pets unless the premises on which they are housed, harbored or displayed for such purposes are duly licensed and inspected by the department of agriculture, markets, and food of the state of New Hampshire. This section shall also apply to commercial kennels.

You have to parse the legalese: "engage in the business of" means just that. It doesn't say, and doesn't mean, that you can't sell pets.

You can't engage in the business of selling cars without a license either, but you can still sell your car.

As someone who actually lives in New Hampshire, and has actually obtained a cat within the past two years, I dispute your "expert opinion".  craigslist (no relation to KBCraig), and my local pet shop, also disagree with you.  Trying searching for kittens on New Hampshire craigslist; you'll find nothing but Want Ads.

This is not to say that this stupid law, like so many others, isn't frequently ignored.

Now that I think about it, I got my kitten for free--the owner wouldn't take anything for her (although tossed in a bunch of her food and toys)

I read the online classifieds of several NH papers, and I found ads for kittens. I also searched the RSAs, and cats are not distinguished from dogs (nor from any other pets) when it comes to licensing breeders and pet stores. But breeders and pet stores are engaged in the business of selling pets.

The licensing law also includes giving pets away, but that's only for persons or entities engaged in the business of placing pets.

I'm no lawyer, but craigslist is even less of a source of legal authority. And your duly licensed local pet shop of course hopes to maintain some exclusivity.

Ignored laws are always reason to celebrate. But this isn't a law.

It is the law that you can't sell or give away puppies or kittens under eight weeks of age, that they must have had their first shots, and that they must have a veterinarian's certificate health issued within 14 days of the transaction. I'm pretty sure that one is ignored too, but at least they're ignoring a law that would actually apply to them.
