Russell saw us out the window and gave a thumbs up.  :)

And we have a new friend "Rick"  :P

Would be nice to have a longer contact list of perpetrating officials and institutions.

I wonder if any strong backs could offer to help the Kannings with their jobs tomorrow.  :)

Ooh yeah!  Can I, huh? Can I?
Although technically, my back is more in the category of "pip squeak" than "strong".
Anyone else want to join the fun?

sending this to pro liberty forums

--

Libertarian activist Russell Kanning of Keene, New Hampshire has just been arrested (April 10) for driving without a license and refusing to appear in court.   Kanning is the publisher of the Keene Free Press newspaper and probably one of the five most prominent pro-liberty activists in the state.

He was briefly arrested last month after being pulled over for a missing tail light on West street.  Keene police then re-arrested him April 10 after he refused  to appear in court.

Operating his bumper-sticker-laden vehicles under the motto "In a free country, you don't need government permission to travel," Kanning has been arrested at least three other times for acts of civil disobedience, including his 2005 attempt to board a flight from Manchester without "papers."

Kanning appeared in Keene District Court April 11, attended by a hastily gathered group of at least nine supporters.  Some stood outside holding "Free Russell Kanning" signs, others went in to hear the proceedings.

It looks like they are claiming they will hold him until May 14.   The jovial nonviolent resistance advocate is said to be refusing to cooperate with processing and is also refusing to post bond.

As of April 11 the latest Details on the situation are posting to the NHfree.com forum  at:

We will be posting a lot more info there as we get it, including action items if any of you would like to help.   Thanks for keeping an eye on our circumstances.

Some clown guy at the jail. Came up and wanted to shake everyones hand and get real chummy before telling us we couldn't be there.

The common denominator I'm seeing in all these folks is the "nice" treatment designed to disarm you.

While Russell's method of fighting for liberty isn't what I'd choose, I have nothing but respect for the guy. Good luck to all, and hopefully more people will realize how horrible the State really is out of this.

Durable is the term that comes to mind.  :)

Well, the violence and threats of violence aren't working.

I asked for Russell at the jail on River Rd. about 1pm,
they said he would need to be processed before I could see him.
Ironically I was looking at him at that moment, he was in another room with a glass wall.
We waved at each other.
The box on the wall said it would take 24 hours before he could have visitors.
I said, "that's a lot of processing".

A month in jail (I'm just assuming you folks won't play the bail game, correct me if my assumption is wrong), BEFORE trial, for driving without a license???

And just who did he hurt, again?  Whose rights did he violate?

He was kidnapped and now is being held for $1000 ransom. :/

I wonder how many people would have to be arrested, and held in jail for long periods of time after refusing to pay bail, using up space that may be needed for REAL criminals, before they would start to realize that it's really expensive to have a bunch of stupid petty laws. As long as everyone just goes along nicely and caves in, I'm sure it's actually profitable for them with fines and such.
