I think it should also be encouraged that people go to this club and give them business to make sure it's shown that people are not scared off by the idea of people defending themselves.

I was in that area just a few hours before the shooting. It strikes me as an area where I think I would go armed at night, just to defend myself.

"Every area" is an area to defend yourself in...

NEVER DISARM!
NEVER SURRENDER!

Customer Kenneth Gage then pulled out his Kel Tec .380 semiautomatic handgun and fired it three times, hitting Encarnacion twice, according to court records.

A .380??? Encarnacion will live...

I still haven't figured out the people who will "bad-mouth" a caliber that they feel is "ineffective"...

This incident proves "any gun in hand is better than one at home or in the car..."

You get shot with a .380 and tell us how great you feel...

Especially if you get shot in the face or neck!?!

The Israeli assassination squads(mossad) use silenced .22 cal. weapons to kill their targets...
Why would we think that anything less than a 9mm or .40 S&W isn't "lethal"!?!?!

I giddily concur. Who volunteers to be shot with my .22lr? My .380? No volunteers? It's all about bullet placement.

2 hits with a .380 will win against 6 misses with a .45 any day.  I have carried a .22lr pistol as my defensive sidearm before I got my P3AT when I wanted something small enough to conceal easily in a pocket, and although it is not as powerful as other options, a well placed shot will halt an attacker.  I prefer large bullets, but shot placement is most important to me.  I would still carry a .22 as a backup sidearm.

Thanks Rob for the congratulations.  I was also elected to the position of Membership Secretary, so if any of you aren't members of GO-NH yet, this link's for you: http://www.gonh.org/membership_application   ;)

Yeah, although when I was carrying more than one pistol in Manchester, the police gave me a hard time, and held onto all of the guns that I had with me until they got verification from the ATF that one of them was legal.  They told me that they didn't think there was any legitimate reason for anyone to carry more than one pistol on them at any given time.  I'm glad I had a spare in the car just in case.

While there's nothing wrong with carrying two (or more) defensive weapons at the same time, I actually meant it would be wise to have another at home or elsewhere to use should someone be unfortunate enough to have to use one in self defense, then have it taken by the police, leaving the original victim disarmed.

Omega lost it's liquor license for a variety of reasons, including serving minors. If I'm not mistaken, the city recommended that their license not be renewed because of all of the problems the police were having there. It was definitely a problem spot....attracting less than desireables from MA. Omega failed to pat their rent and they were evicted. Good riddens.

Uptown Tavern is skanky at best. The owner, Roy Aresenault, is a great guy - he also owns Raxx Billiards. You couldn't pay me to go into the Uptown though.

Playing devil's advocate.....have you considered that the patron's gun might have been taken because he had it illegally? He could be a convicted felon - could have shot someone himself in the past. This guy most definitely did the right thing in shooting the shooter, but we really don't know anything about him beyond that. After all, he was as the Uptown as well. : ) Just food for thought....

Hopefully I have all the posts relating to a hero's fund moved (per request) over here:

Ralph Demicco, owner of Riley's personally vouches for his customer Ken Gage!  That's enough for me!

I can see you as a devil's advocate though...lol. >:D

A friend of mine got into the position where a guy was slicing his face from behind in his driver seat.  Already suspicious of the guy he had his .25 cocked between his legs.  He put two straight into the guys forehead.  They went under the skin failing to penetrate, but, he stopped cutting him.
He moved up to a .380. Two years later he and a woman left a bar just before closing time.  It was a lousy bar in a Black neighborhood, but a friend owned it.  When the got into his van a couple of guys opened the side door and rushed in. He put two in each guy.  They ran up the street.  The bar starts emptying.  The cops come.  The patrons who saw nothing, claim he was running up the street shooting at the black guys.  All the brass is in the van.  They let him go.

This was  about a week after the Bernard Getz incident in Manhattan where some guys brought screwdrivers to what they never imagined was going to be a gunfight.  There was a fervor against people protecting themselves. The night following the van shooting,  after notifying local new outlets the pigs came to where he worked and arrested him.  He operates automatic screw machines and is covered with oil 8 hours a night.  The press got a picture of him going out in cuffs looking like a deranged deer caught in the headlights. They had to drop the charges due to the evidence they had before the arrest.

Before I wrote the check, I thought about the possibility that Ken Gage is not "hero worthy". But at that moment, he was a real hero, making the choice and taking the risk that was not required of him. He saved one or more lives. We have to applaud that.
