Porcupine bonfire(s)

No, not roasting porcupines in effigy.

Just thinking that A)people have brush that needs to be disposed-of, B)people like fires, and C)having a lot of people around a fire can help keep it under control.

So, if anyone is interested, I'm planning to burn a couple trees that I took down and a lot of fallen limbs and underbrush as well.  If there's interest in attending a bonfire, I'd be happy to have to Porcupines around to help keep an eye on things, and hang out.  There's also a campfire-sized fire ring a few yards away, which could be used for roasting hot dogs and the like.

I was thinking this could possibly be a roving bonfire that could happen when needed if some Porcupine needs to burn some brush.

I'm keeping an eye on the weather, but possibly Saturday evening, if that won't conflict with Jon's move-in (don't know how late he's planning on things going).

What about seeing if anyone wants the trees for a stove for heating?  Or are they too small?

No one has taken them, but the offer is still open

Of course, the limbs and other brush still need to be burned, so even if someone wants to take the two trees, the bonfire is still possible.

I've been wondering if people had bonfires up here.  I need an excuse to drink this weekend, so if this happens, count me in...

??? ...you need an excuse?...  ???

I need no excuse to drink, but the weather forecast is calling for rain Friday and Saturday, so it might be a bit wet for a bonfire.

I know a lot of people who have fires - some maybe not as big as a bonfire. :)

Different towns have restrictions on burning.....for example, Manchester doesn't allow any open fires including those chiminea things....which is just ridiculous. The only open fire in Manchester is if you are cooking on it.

In Bow, you just need to get a season permit. In New Ipswich, you have to get a permit or they can fine something like $1000. Part of the logic in getting the permit is so that stupid people donlt start burning during a dry period - and the fire gets out of control and burns the neighbor's house down or something. You do have to admit that there are a lot of stupid people out there!

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe Sunday, during the day.  Any takers?

I'm up for drinking on Sunday!

MaineShark

Okay, Sunday it is.  I'll probably start the fire at 11:00 or so.  Guess I'll have to get a burn permit... we can burn that in effigy ::)

BYOB(beer, wine, liquor, whatever), BYOF(food)(I guess that could also read "fireworks").  We'll probably have some snacks and such, but it would be good to bring something, or we can make a run to the convenience store down the street and get some things once people decide what they want.  If I get the grill fixed, we can use that; if not, we can do it low-tech over a campfire.

There's a bit of crash space available if anyone wants to avoid driving home.

We're in Northwood, about 15-20 minutes east of Concord.  Contact me for directions if you'd like to come by.

11am on a Sunday?   :o

Oh, that's when the fire's starting.  Ok.

I could prolly bring a couple steaks, I like the "low-tech over a campfire" idea.  But if it's rainy out then I'll probably stay in bed!  ;)

MaineShark

Yup, fire's starting about then.  I think people will be there noon-ish or maybe later.  Probably some will wander by at different times.  Not very formal; just a random excuse to hang out.

Okay, FYI, apparently this will be a "Class III" fire and, as such, the permit doesn't allow the big bonfire until 5PM.  Don't ask me why, but they seem to like the idea of people having big fires between 5PM and 9AM, and passed a law as such.  We will still have a campfire going from an earlier point (noon-ish) that people can use to cook.

I could get a "Class IV" permit, but that requires having a Forest Ranger inspect the site and all sorts of nonsense, from what I've been reading.  Silly laws. :o

So, fire still starts at noon-ish, and we'll get the big fire ready to light off at 5PM sharp. ::)

May be a bit of a drizzle.  We still got people going to this?
