Need advice about Nottingham

We're considering a house in Nottingham.  It's just northwest of the intersection of Rt 152 (Harvey Mill Rd) and Rt 125 (Calef Rd).  The house itself is great, but we're concerned about one aspect of the location.  Just up Rt 125 about a mile or so is Lee USA Speedway (http://www.leeusaspeedway.com/).  According to their website, the track is used for events on Friday nights from May through the first week of September, and a few Saturdays and Sundays in April and October.

I know we'll be able to hear the race track when it's operational -- which hopefully is only on about once a week in the spring/summer as described above.  But what I'd really like is if I could find someone who lives nearby and can offer firsthand experience about how bad/often the noise is.  I also noticed that there are a handful of other racetracks nearby, about 5 miles away or so near the intersection of Rt 101 and Rt 125.

So, can anyone who's familiar with the area comment on the racetrack noise -- or other aspects of the area, for that matter?

Your input is greatly appreciated; we're thinking of making an offer on the house this week.

Thanks!

I know nothing about the area but be careful about the Sheriff.

Yeah, we saw a police cruiser there...might indeed have been the Sheriff of Nottingham.

The guys in the woods are OK though, but, watch your purse!

Having lived a mile from an active raceway before, I can say it really depends. You'll certainly hear it outside your house, but you might not hear it indoors, unless you have your windows open.

Have you considered asking the neighbors?

Your suggestion is brilliant in its simplicity.   ;D

However, the issue is that I do not currently live in NH, not to mention Nottingham.  I live a long way from NH, and I'm trying to buy a house there.  I have no idea how to get in contact with the neighbors from afar, though I do believe they would be the best source for this type of information.

It's feasible that I could take another flight up there, drive through the neighborhood, and ask the neighbors these questions.  But I'm under a bit of pressure to make an offer on the house before I'll have a chance to make that trip.

I think that Rochelle works just south of there.
and I think that a few people in live in Northwood... maybe they could take a drive out there.

If the real estate people are putting pressure on you, I suggest relaxing and telling them to sit back and wait and you'll give them an answer when you're good and ready. :)

Cool, thanks.  I'll ask Rochelle and/or see if anyone from Northwood chimes in presently.

No, the pressure's all home grown: we have to move by a certain date in order to start a new job.  Interesting link you posted there...a bit disturbing if true.   :)  Fortunately I'm moving from a very high cost of living area with super-inflated house prices, to Nottingham (hopefully) which is significantly cheaper.  So long as I can get someone to buy my house -- and houses are selling pretty well in my neighborhood at the moment -- my liquid assets will quintuple, my mortgage payment will stay the same, my house will be a lot nicer, and I'll be living in NH instead of the sweaty ass-crack of America that is the DC area.

Oh, it's true, all right. If you manage to sell your house at any price, you'll be doing well. Ian is STILL trying to sell his old house in Florida and he moved almost a year ago.

The innerwebnetthingy is your friend:

Enter your target address, and click "find neighbors". You should find folks on your street who are listed. Ring them up; they'll likely be friendly and welcoming.

Okay, someone from Northwood here.  I can't actually comment on the noise, but I can try to drive by when they are running an event.  I'd second the opinion of calling some neighbors.  A few people may find it odd, but they're generally pretty friendly around here.  You might also want to call a real estate office, and talk to someone in the area.  Preferrably not the realtor that is selling the house, if there is one :)  I'd recommend Carol Lavine from Re/Max in Barrington.  She represented the sellers we bought our house from, was very pleasant to deal with, and I believe she lives in Northwood or Nottingham, so she should be able to check things out for you.

If you want to take more time looking, Denise and I have a couple rooms available to rent in our house here in Northwood, so you could move and start the job, and wait a little longer to find a house (easier to tour houses if you're local).  PM or email me for details, if you're interested.

Don't forget to ask about flooding. Don't rely on flood plain maps; I have learned. Ask some general neighborhood questions. They will likely speak up if there is a real neighborhood concern like vandalism or something.
