Sobriety check set for this weekend.

I wasnt going to make a thread about it but I'll mention the feds were set up at exit 30 asking everyone if they were a citizen again, I got stopped and just nodded and got waved ahead.

I wonder if they can only do it on federal highways?

Which day was that? I saw it yesterday, and wondered if it was a permanent thing or what?

Officers will stop drivers to see if they are under the influence. The police didn't specify the time or location of the checkpoint. Pembroke Police Chief Scott Lane said it would likely be on either Route 28 or 4. The Merrimack County Sheriff's Office and the police from Epsom, Pembroke and Allenstown had received a federal grant to pay for the checkpoint.

If anyone is coming to the party at my house tonight they should be extra-careful about this. The last time they did this the checkpoint was on 28 about 1/2 mile south of my house.

Maybe we should look at this as an opportunity rather than only a problem.

Since a lot of you will be in that area for the party, it shouldn't be that hard for one of you to find the checkpoint and report its location to the others in the area.  Then any one of you could then go out and do what I do:  Approach the cops with a sign and a flyer.

I won't be out there this weekend but hope to make some complaint calls next week.

"Federal" highways are just a different naming scheme. The feds don't own them (with rare exceptions, like the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is a national park). A truck patching a hole on I-93 is going to read "NHDOT" on the side, not "U.S. DOT".

They "can do it" because they're providing the money, and the state and local agencies will salute smartly and do whatever is required to get the money.

I think I should drive up that way and slur my speech and do my best to appear inebriated.  That way they'll spend time giving me the sobriety test, hassling me, search me and my car, etc...   and let everyone else through.
