UPDATED: 9:52 pm EST December 7, 2005

FRANKLIN, Ohio -- A 68-year-old woman was hit with a Taser gun by police in an Ohio city five times.

The police officer in the case, a lieutenant with the Franklin Police Department, claims he is the victim in the case, NBC 4's Mike Bowersock reported.

Beverly Kidwell, 68, was in the waiting room of the police department in suburban Dayton when the incident occurred.

According to police, she came into the station to be arrested for hitting her granddaughter.

Kidwell said she waited a long time in the lobby and, when she got up to leave, the officer hit her with the Taser gun.

"I don't know if he thought I was going to get up and leave or what, but he pulled his gun. I thought it was a gun. I'd never seen a Taser gun in my life and I thought, 'Oh my God. He's going to shoot me. He's going to kill me," Kidwell said.

The police lieutenant said she was resisting arrest, Bowersock reported.

Kidwell said she was in a fetal position and unable to move when the lieutenant ordered her to get up and continued to shock her.

The woman survived five jolts and had to be taken to an area hospital.

They had a pic in the article of this cop from the survalince video, he is a big guy. Apparently though he was afraid of a 68 year old women.

Russell Kanning

Hard for me to imagine a situation where the guy was right ....
... she was about to hit him with a chair ...no
... she was about to escape and he couldn't catch her if she got out of the room .... no

Didn't she come to the station?

Kat Kanning

Pussy...afraid of an 86 year old lady.

Nasdaq Gives Taser Delisting Notice
Friday November 25, 4:59 pm ET
Taser International Receives Delisting Notice From Nasdaq for Late Third-Quarter Filing

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Stun gun maker Taser International Inc. said Friday that the Nasdaq Stock Market told the company its stock could be delisted because it failed to file its third-quarter financial report on time.

The company's shares shed 90 cents, or 12 percent, to close at $6.50 Friday on the Nasdaq.

Taser said it will appeal the Nasdaq's decision by requesting a hearing before the exchange's listing qualifications panel. Until the panel makes a decision, Taser's stock will continue to be traded on the Nasdaq, though its stock symbol will be changed to "TASRE" from "TASR" until it files its quarterly report.

The company, whose earnings and revenue have dropped sharply in recent quarters amid concern about the safety of its stun guns, said on Nov. 15 it would not file its third-quarter 10-Q report on time since it had to restate its first and second-quarter results. The restatement relates to errors in how it accounted for legal and professional fees.

The company said it will file its third-quarter 10-Q as soon as possible, after it files the restated first and second-quarter results.

Funny how there's not as much concern about the safety of this kind of police equipment:

About as often as they shoot little old ladies and children. That's part of the problem with taking such tools away from police and insisting on a "safer, less lethal" weapon like the Taser: it gets used more!

Sometimes, Taser abuse is just... just. And comical.  ;D

The Associated Press

A police officer has been charged with using a Taser on his partner during an argument over whether they should stop for a soft drink.

Ronald Dupuis, 32, was charged Wednesday with assault and could face up to three months in jail if convicted. The six-year veteran was fired after the Nov. 3 incident.

Dupuis and partner Prema Graham began arguing after Dupuis demanded she stop their car at a store so he could buy a soft drink, according to a police report.

The two then struggled over the steering wheel, and Dupuis hit her leg with his department-issued Taser, the report said. She was not seriously hurt.

Hamtramck police union lawyer Eugene Bolanowski said he expected Dupuis to hire a private lawyer.

Hamtramck is a city of 23,000 surrounded by Detroit.

High voltage tactics To local police, Tasers save lives. To critics, they're deadly weapons.

It feels like a bee sting when the probes first pierce your skin, and then a jolt of electricity instantly freezes your body.

For law enforcement, the "stun gun" known as a Taser is a cutting-edge lifesaver. Human-rights organizations, though, say the device is responsible for hundreds of unnecessary deaths.
