Wi-Fi sucks...

Ok, maybe it's my Belkin wi-fi card, I don't know.

But since I've lived here, it's worked great (my first night I had to manually plug in to the 'net.  after that it has worked great).

TONIGHT, however, it was not working.  It still is not working.  I am plugged in downstairs (I don't spend much time down here).

So what the hell?  Is it the man trying to keep me down?  Do I need a better quality wi-fi card?  You people are so computer-smart and I are computer-dumb.

HELP!!!

error

Heh, you probably just need somebody to look the thing over.

Quantrill

Ok, so I need to give a boatload of karma to Error for doing two things -

First, for letting me know that I have a built-in wifi card and didn't need to waste money on that plug-in nonsense
Second, for taking the time to download whatever drivers and whatnot that this thing actually needed.  MUCH appreciated!

:D

I though it was a little odd when you told me your laptop didn't have built in wifi.  But i'm also computer illiterate.
Unsolicited plug for error-he did great at destroying a rather pernicious trojan virus on my laptop.   :)

Q --   here is my solution:

Take firm hold of PC laptop
Hurl into nearest trash
Buy a Mac
Turn on Mac
Connect to WiFi instantly
NO software needed
No more headaches

Apple is the only the way!!  ;) Although, I do admire how my oldest child is so computer savy that it seems she can do anything she wants on any computer with any OS. This next generation will invent some cool hybrid machine.

Belkin??

Dude, you get what you pay for.

Use Netgear, the only time I've had to replace any piece of networking equipment from them was after a lightning strike.

Routers? Hell no, I don't use no routers..

Look ma, wi-fi, with no router!

While I must say I prefer Mac to Windows, I prefer Linux to Mac. I know, Mac is based on Linux, I'm not dumb, however I prefer my computer to look like a computer rather then a piece of my furnture. Why would I want a Mac when I could build a linux based machine that does exactly what I want and I don't have to mess with closed source systems like iTunes, or any of the other junk.

Further, why use something that goes against english conventions and refused to use a capital letter at the begining of a proper name?

Sorry, I still harbor anger against Apple from 'the old days'.

Actually it's not. It's based on BSD Unix....

I did not think mine looked like a piece of furniture...my laptops are laptops and my desktop is basically just a screen...

iTunes runs on your Windows system...

Not sure what you mean by that. I use caps all the time -- in naming files, or wherever. Can you elaborate?

I prefer something I can get other people using without a few comp sci classes, a stack of reference books and the ability to understand command line interface.  :D

Other than that, yes - Linux is better.

Stack of reference books? I've never read one manual and I've introduced many people to Macs with a good set up and one hour to show them what to do and they are fine. My 86 year old father has a ball with his, does EVERYTHING with it, and rarely calls me for help. I've never heard the complaint that a Mac was too tough to use!

And that's the beauty of Mac - you don't have to use the CLI, it has a most beautiful GUI. I use the CLI because I run PHP/server from mine but most people don't even know what that is and would not have the need.
