Do turkeys come into people's yards up here?

Anyone know what statutes pertain to this?  In MO permits were not required during deer season for instance, if you were hunting on your own land.  As to hunting outside of deer season, I was never sure.

I'd really like to have a definite answer on this...

So you have to have permits and all that on your own land?  Crazy.

The general legal theory is that all wild game belongs to the state, because animals move through the world without regard to property lines. Most states do allow "high fence" farms for hunting deer and other critters that can be contained by such a fence, and those critters are private property that can (usually) be taken without a license.

Turkeys don't pay much attention to fences, though.

Here's the rule book:
http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Hunting/Hunting_PDFs/Hunting_Digest_2006_07.pdf

On page 8, it lists the exceptions to the license requirement. A landowner does not have to have a license when hunting on his own land during the season, except for hunting that requires an additional permit (muzzleloading, archery, turkey, etc.)

Here's a house for sale in Berlin, with a picture of turkeys in the driveway.

Nice pictures!  I was talking to my sister in law on the phone this morning and I was looking out of the window and what do I see climbing over the boulders right by the window, a lone turkey!  I put the phone down and rushed out to get a picture and the damn batteries in the camera were dead! ::)  So he/she continued doing the turkey walk down the dirt road and disappeared into the woods. Awesome! :D

That is hysterical, thanks!  I actually have my 11 yr. old ask me to play the Charlie video a lot and then my 9 yr. old comes in when it starts and all 3 of us are just mesmerized by the video, (Rick thinks were weirdos, which I think I agree ;D).  It's scary!

I wonder if it's a subliminal mind control video put out by the government. :help:  I can't even remove it from my profile this little voice says, no, no, shhhuunn the non-believer. Ha, ha, just kidding there! :D

I haven't seen a turkey I did see a moose on Wednesday here in Croydon.

It's great how wildlife has come back in the northeast.  When I was a kid in rural upstate NY we didn't believe my dad when he said that he saw a wild turkey when he was out running early in the morning.  Twenty five years or so later and they're everywhere.  I had one get spooked and fly over my head when I was riding my motorcycle in CT about ten years ago.  They are loud when they fly and hitting one while hauling ass (at the legal speed limit, of course) would have been bad.

My funniest turkey sighting was about five years ago when there was a turkey across the street from my old office in Battery Park at the tip of Manhattan.  He was there for weeks.  Maybe he hopped on the Staten Island ferry or walked across the Brooklyn Bridge.  Anywho, yea I'm sure they come into people's yards.

Lots of wild turkeys in CT.  The same flock came thru my friend's yard every evening for a couple of weeks.  He kept track of the time.  They came a little later every day as the summer wound down.  One evening they all started flapping theirs wings and roosted in a tree.  Who the Hell knew that turkeys roosted in trees?

There was an earlier attempt in the 60's to establish wild Turkeys in CT. While  it didn't work as well as it did when theytried again in the 80's, there were some Turkeys around.
Although we lived in the city, we had some nearby woods along a little river to build forts in and later, where we could hunt and trap.  I was walking along a path one day with my bow. All of a sudden, this commotion was going on over to my left in the trees!  A Turkey was taking off!  It sounded like a small helocopter taking off!  Scared the Hell out of me!  (I got it back) I let a couple of arrows go........more out of defense, at that point, not hitting anything

I will never forget when about 3 owls used to perch in the trees in my backyard and one night they were so loud it woke me up.  I was looking out of the window and saw this magnificent owl flying right by my house and I heard the whooshing sound of his/her wings.  The owl swooped down and caught a frog that was on the walkway.  It was so awesome to see so close.  Poor frog though.

I saw a cool woodchuck climbing on the rocky cliffs in front of my house yesterday, that was neat too. :)

We have a beautiful pileated woodpecker in our yard irritating the hell out of the nesting robins.  Also a huge hawk swooped down from a tree in our yard and snatched a chipmunk or squirrel.  We don't dare let our little 6-pound dog out on the deck for fear she'll be the hawk's next dinner.  Haven't seen any moose yet this spring/summer.  Bet we will on 4th of July.  The fireworks scare the moose and send them scurrying.  Nearly every Independence Day a moose gets hit by a car following the fireworks show.

I tried to go to moose alley, do you remember showing me where it was at?  Me, Rick and the kids have been up there twice maybe I've been taking them to the wrong location because I'm not sure if I remembered it right.  Was it right before a little bridge, there is a little building there and room for a couple of cars to pull off to the side?  We saw lots of bear prints, it spooked me so I ran back to the van.  I haven't seen any moose there though.
It's right by the river you showed me and said there was a long trail, am I taking them to the right place?
We missed Kid's day up there, no one wanted to go because of the weather.  :)
