I was woken up by this turkey sounding noises underneath my bedroom window at about 5 a.m. this morning and Rick went outside to look and heard something running but couldn't see it.    Could it have been a turkey or a bear?

I have seen 2 dead mooses or meese ,(ha, ha), already and finally got to see a live moose eating grass on the side of the road last week, it was so neat! :D

If it sounded like a turkey, it probably wasn't a bear. ;D

I'm not sure because it didn't sound exactly like a Tom Turkey I guess that's what they are called so maybe it was a wild turkey or not a turkey at all.

I know I'm probably the worst person for someones head on Monday mornings. 8)

The only way I know how to describe the strange sound is by comparing it to a turkey, it kept making a weird crying sound every 2 minutes maybe I will stay up all night and see if it comes back.

Yes, we have lots of wild turkeys.

Yes, we have lots of bears and they do cry like babies (seriously).

Here in very suburban Derry, we see all kinds of wildlife out our window. For 2 nights in a row, we have been visited by a skunk. I keep willing it to go away, but the lady upstairs throws bread out for the birds every day.

Lots of turkey here.

when i lived in ossipee this summer, i had this flock of turkeys come into my yard at least a couple times a week. it would have been really cool if my coonhound didn't flip out every time they came around :).

Lots of wild turkeys in CT.  The same flock came thru my friend's yard every evening for a couple of weeks.  He kept track of the time.  They came a little later every day as the summer wound down.  One evening they all started flapping theirs wings and roosted in a tree.  Who the Hell knew that turkeys roosted in trees?

If you scare them up walking through the woods it can scare the crap out of you. They look really weird flying away, doesn't look like they should fly well, but they sure do.

I come up on wildlife riding my ATV a lot, more than on foot. Once William and I were riding up the mountain trail pretty fast. We scared up a turkey who took off and glanced off my forehead. I almost wiped us out from laughing so hard. William really enjoyed telling his Mom that story. ;D

Hey, can you blast turkeys for trespassing on your property?

MMM, turkey...

After reading about all of these turkey stories, I'm going to assume it was a turkey and not stay up all night as I wrote earlier to see if "it" comes back.

Very, very interesting things I'm experiencing here, it's neat!  Thanks everybody! :)

In season, yes!

It also could have been Ruffed Grouse...

So you have to have permits and all that on your own land?  Crazy.

I think I've asked this before, but was unsure of the answer...

I'm not sure about permits, but there is a 'season' for hunting.

Here's a house for sale in Berlin, with a picture of turkeys in the driveway.
