Hmmm... the son of one of my parents' neighbors is a Iraq war vet (Marines) who was in an IED explosion and got a purple heart, and was just at the White House last week getting either that or some other medal awarded.  Would that do?  I can see if he's interested in visiting NH and tormenting the authorities...

Joe

That's the only way you are going to get someone.  18-20 year-old veterans are still on an enlistment.  They'll drink, sure enough, but they aren't going to make a political statement.

It would be really great if you served two veterans... one who just turned 21, and one who is about to.

In uniform.  >:D

I do think it would be better if there were two vets 18 - 20 so if one has to cancel for some reason the show still goes on.

long as it's not to inconvenient for him to visit the concord area a couple times....he might have  to return for a court date.

I know a 20 year old active duty soldier (some of you met him at PorcFest last year), but he's inconveniently stationed in California.  :-\

And, I don't know if he's quite ready to take the (military) heat for civil disobedience.

Would you like to advertise for a volunteer in the Keene Free Press?

Dave Ridley

i would *like* to but since I have not made a final decision to do this, it might be premature.

I'll ask him next time I see him.  Might be a week or two.

Have the 21yr old vet serve the 20yr old vet.

Dan

You know what, I bet you could find a cop that would serve a minor war vet.

Dan

I can't leave this idea alone for one minute....

You might be able to get Ron Paul to serve a minor war vet.

Nah, it's a state issue, isn't it?  Don Gorman?

I expect Dawg was referring to having an actor play the part of a deceased soldier who never got the chance to legally drink, even though he had the opportunity to legally "die for his country."

Might be even more effective to have a living soldier who fits the qualifications read off a list of friends who were killed before they reached 21, while participating in the CD.

After a week of thought, I think we should be able to find a police officer willing to serve an underage vet as _my_ best idea.  *shrug*  I've only met two NH local officers, and one didn't like me.  So I'm no help.  :)

Finding a vet willing to do this seems difficult; why not expand to simply serve to a underage individual who is a demonstrably responsible person?

The verteran part is what will sway public opinion though. Actually I think average folk tend to think 18 makes sense as a drinking age. I actually have had a lot of people ask me what the age is after I tell them I'm not old enough to drink. So some folks don't know.

The only vet you're likely to find under 21 and who has an honorable discharge will probably be injured. A wounded vet who can't legally drink, now that's a statement. the only military guys I know in that age range are still in the service.
