a 50' cable is around $25 at staples if I recall.  Online for cheaper, build it yourself cheaper still.

Dave, drop me a line - I've got a nice tangled pile of a few hundred feet of Cat 5e cable that I got a few years ago from a broken and somewhat de-spooled 1000' spool that the seller was looking to unload.  It's wired every corner of my home and there's plenty left over.  I'll even put the RJ-45 ends on it for you.  Let me know.
