I am interested in finding out what anyone can tell me about the experience of living without a social security number in New Hampshire. For the record, I don't mean going through any sort of legal proceeding to have my social security number actually removed, so much as just not giving it out, ever.

Are there Porcs out there intentionally helping to make life without an SSN easier?

Many people will do business with you without asking you for any stupid socialist numbers.

Even large companies tend to be more friendly to the notion of people not having or not using SSN's...

When I signed up to get some propane delivered by Irving, then said they needed to run a credit check before they would deliver (since I wasn't going to be home when they made the delivery, and they would be billing me).  Rather than just demanding a SSN, they asked if I would like to give it, or if I would prefer they just run the check based on my name and address, and simply warned me that it sometimes takes longer without the number.  I asked them to run it without the SSN, and they were back with an answer in like three minutes.
