For those that moved...

I moved to NH before the free state project started up and hadn't learned of the project until long after I settled in to this state.

But the reasons I moved to NH were much the same as why many of the rest of you moved here.  I moved here because of the freedoms in NH compared to other states I lived in.  Actually I guess you can say I retreated here from other states.

NY has legislated and taxed the upstate economy into nothingness so there were I lived there were few choices for jobs.

From there I moved to CT which while there were more jobs the employees were taxed to death.  I had to pay taxes on EVERYTHING and so much of my income went to the government I found the houses my wife and I were able to afford were nothing near what we wanted and in most cases were located in very bad sections of town where you wouldn't want to raise a family.

NH seemed like a good alternative.  The taxes were low, no income tax, no sales tax.  The salary calculator website I compared zip codes in said I was able to live at the same standard of living we had in CT with a salary half of what my wife and I made together back in CT so we each could have taken a pay cut and still come out ahead.  And as an IT worker the area just north of Boston (while I would get stuck paying income tax) was rated at the time (and last I knew still is) the second best place in the world for IT workers second only to silicon valley.

Nearly every day I look out at my back yard, or at the beautiful sunset, or watch my son laugh and play, or whatever, and I have a swell of happiness and contentedness living here, in this state with such people as I have come to know and admire.

As soon as I heard about the FSP from a friend of mine, I knew it was right for me.
I'm glad there are marijuana freedom fighters here. Even though pot legalization isn't my issue, I'll help them to be more free.
I'm glad there are gun rights advocates here. Even though being armed 24/7 isn't my issue, I'll help them to be more free.
I'm glad there are polygamists here. Even though having multiple spouses isn't my issue, I'll help them to be more free.

I moved from Indiana to New York just before the vote for the state.  My wife and I had originally planned to stay until the 20,000 mark, until we moved closer to NYC.  New York City is just too hypocritical to live near.  Socialized health care paid for by an increased tax on cigarettes (nearing $10 a pack), Government restrictions on cab fares (as well as the number of taxis allowed on the streets, $250,000 for a cab license [medallion] sounds reasonable right?), alternate side parking unless you own a commercial vehicle then legally you can triple park, No legal guns in the city but multiple shootings occur every day anyway, Giulliani (socialist in disguise) endorsing all of these assinine plans.  It's like a burning asylum, where the inmates are convinced they can stop the fire by pouring very little water out of very big buckets.  (tell me if that analogy makes sense).
I knew it was time to leave New York (state) when I found out it was illegal to own an AK receiver flat and an AK parts kit in my county.  A non functional gun in pieces is illegal to own?  My wife convinced me to stay in New York long enough for our son to be born.

Too bad, you could have had a New Hampshire anchor baby.   ;D

Bring all your ferenghi friends when you come.  We like capitalists.

Will do!

From ohio, do I need to say more?   :o
I moved largely because I had seen the inability of the activists to do anything substantial, and not for lack of effort.  The idea to concentrate our resources on a relatively small area made very good sence.  So I signed up for the fsp.  Then dragged my feet.  (I hate moving)  I finally became increasingly bitter and frustrated with the near state worship I was surrounded by.  That's when I moved.
I do not regret the move.   :)

For those of you who've moved as part of the FSP or otherwise, what pushed you over the top and decided that "This is something that I want to be apart of?"

i joined as a "friend of FSP" in sept 2002 but by nov i decided it looked like too much fun to miss.  so at that point i joined as a full pledged member, opting out of alaska and VT.

i voted NH>WY> ID i think but don't remember the remainder of the order.   i was a wyoming backer for most of the discussion but benson's statement changed my mind.

i'm really glad i did it...for economic reasons as much as anything else...i was able to save more money after i moved here.  but it really is fun to have a front row seat for history.
